Default Which head gaskets for TFS 225 ?

I am installing into a stock bottom LS2 a 238/240 .605/.609 Comp Grind with TFS 225's c/w 61cc chambers in the next few days and am looking for some help from any smarty pants out there. According to my calculations with a .060 gasket I end up with 11.3:1 and 8.52:1 DCR. Should I use a thinner gasket to increase the DCR up slightly or should I leave it alone ? I also was thinking of just using GM factory gaskets but I dont know the thickness of them. BTW- I am in Central alberta where summer is only around 30*C and have 91-92 octane fuel. Thanks in advance for anyhelp.

You are probably better off with the 0.04x thickness, you can also retard the cam a bit if you need to get dcr down.

I have the same heads. I used a Cometic 4.070 x .045.

I would run the stock GM gaskets, but you could run thinner if desired.

Interesting.

What is the size of the combustion chamber on your heads?

Lot of the 4.00" bore head offerings seam to have a 4.100 chamber.

Any thoughts?

These ones have 61cc chambers...I dont think I would like to run any thinner than .040 as DCR would already be at approximately 8.64:1. Isnt optimum around 8.5 or so , or at least somewhere under 9:1 ? Please correct me if I am off and keep the comments coming, thanks.

This question is slightly off topic but not really. Why are many using bigger bore gaskets ie:4.070 ?

My 4.070 is perfect for my bore and chamber. You definately don't want gasket hanging out into the bore.

Alright, thanks, so you went with .045 over .040 ? Just to knock down your compression a bit more I assume , how does your car perform ?

The TFS 225's have a 4.0" bore chamber and are designed specifically for a 4.0" bore engine, as opposed to some of the competitors heads that were hogged all the way out to 4.100" and then were told would work on bores all the way down to 3.90"

I have an update on compression ratio with the TFS 225 heads on a LS2 engine. I spoke to a customer of ours that goes by "rmitchell" on here, he has a C6 Vette with a stock LS2 shortblock. He originally had LPE LS6 heads with 11.5:1 compression and a 236/242 cam, he then switched to the TFS 225 heads and milled them to 12:1 compression. His power went from 480 RWHP to 507 RWHP, and the tendency towards detonation was actually reduced with the superior chamber design of the TFS heads.

Well we'll see what this does, should be together in a couple weeks I hope. I am shooting for 12:1 with 8.64:1 DCR with a .040 gasket will keep you updated. Why did he have to mill the heads to get 12:1 out of curiosity , am I missing something ?

Sounds like the "as supplied" TFS heads had to be shaved to bring the combustion chamber size down to one that gave that 12:1 scr.

We milled his heads to 58.5 cc and used a stock GM head gasket, so that should be around 12:1

I feel this is a better way to go than a bigger chamber with a thinner gasket, I prefer a quench of .040"-.050", it seemed to work for him, 12:1 with no detonation....

Just ordered a set TFS 225's myself through Canadian Performance.

Should be fun to see what she does on a 385ci motor w/ a streetable cam.

Brian, sent you an e-mail.

Than I have a problem because I somehow figured with 61cc and a .040(stock GM Gasket) would equal 12:1. Somebody help me out with my compression please. 61cc heads with stock 6.0L and .040 gasket= ? Thanks in advance.

You need to know your piston to deck clearence. Mine was .005 out of the bore. Need to also know what bore gasket.

Assuming your pistons are .005 out of the bore like mine. You use a .040 x 4.030 gasket. You would be at 11.9:1 with a .035 quench.

I'm not finished yet. I torqued down the passenger side head with the ground stap pinched in it. Had to take the head to the machine shop to have it welded and resurfaced. Now I'm waiting on another head gasket.
