Will a Stock Lt1 PCM control a 4L80E Trans?

The 4L80E and 4L60E's are different. I am sure they have different plugs for the wiring harness and the 4L80E have a VSS and Input shaft sensor if I remeber right. The wiring harnes will be different at the vary least. You'll have to run the TCI 4L80E controller box.

No the PCM will NOT control a 4L80E... It needs a specific GM pcm or like jmalibuss said above, a TCI controller box.

The VSS is fine, the stock pcm can read the signal, the TCI box may or may not use the input shaft speed sensor. Make sure you get all the wiring pigtails that go with the 80E trans when you get it so that the TCI box can be wired right up.

I know for a fact that the TCI box usses both VSS and ISS (input shaft sensor) The TCI wiring harness comes with everything you need to hook it up. You'll have to splice in to Vehicle RPM& TPS. Quick note, when you hook everthing up make sure not to get the VSS and ISS plugs miked up. You'll chase your tail forever trying to figure out why you speed-o reads funny and the trans won't shift properly. Over all the TCI setup is really nice. You can adjust shift points on the fly. Pretty cool.

Maybe you should look into what a WELL DONE 4L60E can handle. It gets a bad rap because of bad builders give it to a good builder and it can take a lot.

That Controller looks pretty bitchin. I would have to agree with 96capricemgr. A well built 4L60E trans will hold up to a lot! I have a FLT trans thats about 3 years old and I punish it on a weekly basis and it holds up fine. My car weighs in at 4243 with me in it. At the drag strip it barks the slicks going in to 2nd every time. It all in how it's set up and the parts used. I also highly recommend a GOOD trans cooler. Maybe two. Heat it a automatic trans's worst enemy. I have the radiator cooler and two other in line coolers afterwards. I am also going to add a additional spin on filter for it.

I have a ProBuilt Automatics over 3 years myself. FLT is definetely a top 4L60E shop, Rossler too. Not that these three are a complete list but it is a start.
Rossler has a 4L60E in a 4400lbs Impala that has gone 9.6 at 146mph, guy has it refreshed anually but never had it fail. He has been invited to the Pump Gas Drags and has hinted that if it hooks he will lower his personal best. To me that is the ultimate statement as to what can be done with a 4L60E in the right hands.

i got a bad taste in my mouth for a 4l60e after dealing with 4 700r4's between two cars. however i have not seen a 4l60e from ANY of the top builders on this site or any other that im impressed with. a local guy went through 3 (i believe top of the line) built FLT 60e's in his heads and cam all motor 2002 z28. he sold that car and picked up another one with only a cam and a built 60e (cant remember who built it) and finally swapped to a t56. the three in the 02 z28 happened over the course of about 4 months so it really wasnt abuse so much as it was the 60e just not being a good performance automatic.

if i had to stay auto theres no doubt i would try to find a way to make the 80e fit and work. theres no reason to build a 60e IMO.

Maybe you should look a little harder You may be suprised how many nine and ten second cars are popping up with them these days

Then again I have found some people can break ANY THING!

you can run into the 8s with one i bet, but i refuse to rebuild my transmission every year. ill sell my car before i do that. i dont know many people that like doing that either.

i agree about breaking anything though. same guy with the 02 z28 i was talking about swapped to a t56 in his new car and less than 3 months later destroyed it on the highway when i think the yoke let go in his driveshaft at 130mph. took out the entire transmission, the driveshaft tore in half, took out the driveshaft loop i believe, put a hole in his floorboard and even broke his center console.

15k is definitely more realistic. when i was shopping around for someone to build my old 700r4 i was told by many of the top builders for the 700s that anything over 450rwhp and i would need to rebuild it yearly. anything faster than mid to high 10s and im rebuilding it yearly. ect ect.

This build is for a really good friend and its a Stock bore LT1 with forged pistons, heads, cam and a ported intake with some spray. the problem is i dont know enough about the overdrive transmissions or computer controlled engines. i have built many 6-71 Blown SBC with TH400s.and my own personal car is an 83 Monte SS with Twin Turbo 377 backed by a Th400 with a brake. so if i had it my way it would just get a 400 and not worry about the electronicly controlled trans. the problem is that this is a budget build and the trans is out of my 2005 truck that got wrecked. what would it cost to get a 4l60 built to handle 500RWHP? at least i think thats what we are shooting for.

I have over 3 years and 35K miles on the ProBuilt and the car was already cammed when I installed it. Went in to update the shift kit for the current power level and found no dust in the pan.

A friend bough a rebuilt kit from ProBuilt and had it installed locally and blew it up 3-4 times since and that was last june. Seeing as my car makes more power than his and is heavier I don't think the parts were the issue but rather the installer.
