Hmm... should I wait to buy my new tranny??? I've been thinking of going with a 4L80 but if a retrofitted 6L80 is coming soon I might wait a bit.

I have seen the production line build up of the 6L80, and it is
a very impressive trans.
Don't plan on a retrofit of this trans into earlier vehicles for a LONG time.
The internal solenoids function in the same manner as the
Allison truck transmissions in that they open to a certain percentage
of flow for a specific time. No simple open/close operation means that there is no simple way to wire a manual "paddle shift" arrangment.
There is an INTERNAL trans computer which must communicate with
the PCM to establish the correct shift at that particular moment.
I asked the builder about a retrofit possibility and it does not seem likely.
I would be surprised to see an aftermarket source spend the time and $$$
to create a standalone system for this trans.
I am sure people will come out with programming for cars/trucks that
have the 6L80 from the factory to adjust for a stall converter etc.
but that is about it.
The trans should hold plenty of power though.

if you want more gears, you could always run a TH350 with a gearvendors overdrive, but it'll be a costly setup and cause a lot of parasitic loss (the gearvendors overdrive is like having another tranny sucking up hp, which is why i said TH350 instead of TH400 because it sucks up less power). it would be kinda like having an A6 though...

Sounds like my SRT-8.
Its these CAN-BUS systems and they are a PITA and a POS. For some reason everything has to talk to everything. Seems like the A/C has its own computer that talks to the tail lights which relays the message through the sunroof control module to decide when to shift. Very complicated and no reason to be really.
