Default Monsoon Door Speakers

Do Monsoon door speakers have a 2-prong connector or 4-prong?

Thanks in advance!

Camaro is a 4 prong connector.

I have a Camaro. I didn't realize there was a difference between Camaro/Firebird door speakers?

-- both use components in the doors, Camaro components are just mounted coaxially while Firebird components are physically separate as well (like traditional "component" sets).

Mine only have two prongs. (or a two prong connector) I must have Trans Am door speakers instead of Camaro ones.

?? - have you read this thread? They both have components.....yours are just mounted separately (assuming you have Monsoon....) Do you have a Camaro or Firebird?

I have a 99 Camaro SS. I bought some "monsoon" door speakers from a fellow member on here. The ones he sent only have a two prong connector. The wiring/connector in my door has four prongs. It's my understanding that the Trans Am speakers have the tweeter seperate and the Camaro has them together. This means that I bought the wrong speakers, correct?

Assuming he has a Camaro (since he wouldn't complain about having Firebird speakers in a Firebird), I think you're right - he doesn't have a Monsoon system. The base audio system had 4-ohm full-range speakers in the door and 10-ohm "extended-range" speakers in the sail panels. That would explain the single pair of wires for the door speakers.

I'm all confused now. The speakers I bought only have a two prong plug. My door speakers take a four prong plug.

Okay...now I get it. Yes, it sounds like you bought Firebird Monsoon speakers that aren't wired the same as in your Camaro. Both models use 6.5" speakers but the Camaro has a tweeter mounted in the middle of it (like a coaxial speaker except that it's really separate components). The Firebird has its tweeter mounted (and wired) separately above the 6.5" mid.

Look at the speaker you bought - if it doesn't have a tweeter in the middle then it's not a Camaro Monsoon speaker. If it does have a tweeter in the middle but only has a two-prong connector then it's not even a Monsoon speaker - it's an ordinary coax.
