Default Pulling motor out the top question

I know this gets asked alot but search isn't working. I've always taken my motor out the bottom but would like to pull this one out the top. I have the heads and intake off. Where does everyone hook the cherry picker up to? I put two bolts in the top where the knock sensors go but the arm isn't long enough on the hoist. Also can I pull the tranny at the same time or should I drop it first.

Leave the tranny on and put the chain through some head bolts and bolt it to the block.

Should I hook the hoist on towards the front of the motor or over the center?

I bought a QTP lift plate, although the hoist I used was too short...so I learned how to take the front bumper off. No big deal because ive been meaning to do some stuff behind there anyway.

I've always just put a bolt in the rear passenger head, and front driver head, and hooked the chains up there. Tranny unbolted though.

bolt from pass. head cross to rear driver head bolt where ground is

i have an x chain i made and bolt to both heads, like x pattern
with any trans and acc., minus ac comp. aslo helps to remove alt.
but not necessary, i prefer to remove engine from top, takes me longer to
disconnect water lines and wiring, and to unbolt trans, tq arm, etc.

I have helped install and remove 4 engines from the top. I used what's called a "Happy Hooker" I found off ebay. I keep everything on the block except the A/C, Alt. and PS pump. We have even removed the engine with the tranny still attatched.

On average it takes about 15-20 minutes to remove it from the top once everything is disconnected.

If you have a lift you can drop it out the bottom but me I usually pull the tranny and take a big nylon rachet strap and put ot around the crank pulley and 1 pont dead center of the block(top bell housing bolt and pull it out the top. If you have a lift then the bottom is the best way. Good Luck

I got one of the qtp lift plates and it worked out very nice. It's almost too pretty for what it's used for though. I wish my valley cover was that shiney.
