Default Remove metal exhaust shields under car?

I was wondering if anyone has removed those metal (thin tin material) shields under the car? I am just trying to save a little weight and remove unneeded items that could squeek or rattle.

yeah i guess they aren't worth the weight savings. i guess it would clean up the bottom of the car more than anything. if i knew they served no major purpose i would remove them

Same here, I haven't had any heat shields under the car for several years.

Pulled mine off because they rattled like a sumbitch...no problems with headers, off-road y-pipe, and Hooker cat-back. I did paint the y-pipe with ceramic paint to help keep the temps down and the heades are also Jet-Hot coated.

mine are kind of in the way with my aftermarket Y-pipe. i think i can bend them out of the way enough but it would just be easier to remove them...

They're not only heat shields, they protect your fuel lines and wiring from debris and foreign objects.

Something flies up at speed, damages a fuel line, and you leak fuel on your red-hot LT header, well, you can guess what happens next can't you?

Some people post some retarded things to do.

To free up 1 hp you need to remove 7 lbs, to me the tin things are not worth the effort!

the only one I would ever consider removing is the rear one by the catback / gas tank area... mostly because it's the main cause of rattling noises back there and it doesn't serve much of a purpse on these cars overall

I wouldn't remove them, they're functional and they weigh very little. When I did my header install, I noticed that the sheilds on the passenger side rattled a little. I drilled a couple holes and riveted them together.
