Heater core is leaking. Classic sign.

Could also be a leaking water pump. I had the same smell, for weeks I didnt realize it was only when the A/C was on. Turned out to be my stock pump - it was a good excuse for me to buy the EWP!

Be sure you're smelling coolant... Dexcool smells different than green coolant.

Heater core has been known develop leaks where the pipes are crimped into it... leaks into the hot air passage in the HVAC system, and onto your carpet; and it will fog up your windows.

To access the heater core, you need to remove the glove box (and the underdash panel); heater core hoses are accessed from the engine compartment.

+1 more for heater core. Had the smell then ,a few weeks later, the puddle on the passenger side foot area. Let me know what you end up paying for your heater core, I still have to replace mine. I was checking a few out on ebay. I think I want to pay the money for a new one, no sense putting a used one in, only to have it fail again.

OK. The heater core is located inside your car. In the duct work. The same ductwork that your a/c blows thru. The heater core has hot engine coolant running thru it. If it leaks the coolant pools up inside the duct. Hence "I smell coolant blowing thru the vents". Hope this explains it.
