160 stat???
I just put in a 160 stat...however stock gauge still shows just under 210 when the car is hot like the stock one did. Is this because I had the car tunned before I installed it? I cant see why a new stat would be bad. Any ideas...did this happen to any one else that put these in? Thanks for any advise in advance.

well you should do a search on this as the topic has been covered many times, but to answer your question, yes it happens to everyone because the fans dont kick on untill proper operating temperature. that means the coolant starts flowing at 160* but the fans dont turn on untill 195* so the tstat opening up sooner really is pointless unless you have the fans tuned.
the thing i dont like about the tstat mod is that you see no power gains from it and it makes your car use more gas, and since i DD mine im gas consious. it can also mess with other settings and monitors on the car that rely on engine temp. my personal advice is to remove it and put the stocker back in. unless your car is highly modified there's no reason to run your car at lower temperatures.

From what I've read the 99+ cars' temp gauges is virtually worthless. I've had my fans tuned in the PCM and I installed a manual fan override. It still doesn't matter, I can have the scanner hooked up indicating a 165* to 170* coolant temp, but the gauge still shows a hair under 210*. I've been told this is because that gauges movement is controlled via the PCM. Meaning that the movement is programmed into the PCM regardless of actual coolant temp. I've also read that if it actually goes up above 210* you're starting to get really, really hot.

My Camaro has a 160 stat and I've been contemplating switching to the stocker.

I have the 160 t-stat, and after the install, I had my elictric fans re-programed so they will come on at 175F vs. the stock 195F it helps alot, believe me, my car is even more consistent on the track, I'm happy with it, it works great eventhough the damn temp gauge is worthless.lol

98 was only year with a working gauge. they put the high temp t-stats in for emissions reasons.
get aftermarket gauge, put the sending unit in passenger side head.
