lt1 valvetrain upgrade questions...
Hey all...
About to buy my STS kit and even though they say it should run "fine" with 4-5psi on stock internals, I'm a stiffler about putting extra stress on crap let alone stock parts...
I've been floating around google, reading couple of articles from GM High Tech but not really fulfilling a decent list, so here's what I have. Please help me in choosing the correct parts to safely run 7psi of boost with a tune from a shop around here...
Here's what I got:
Manley Nextek Valve Springs
Manley Titanium Retainers
Comp Hi-Tech Pushrods
should I go with 1.6rrs for this? or should I just throw them on? If I go for 1.6rrs will these springs suffice?
A friend told me about doing guideplates........
And yes I know my stock rearend will see it's end soon, however I dont plan on beating the crap out of my car. Will a decent rebuild do it? 3.73s or 4.10s? I'll eventually be doing a strange 12 bolt but I heard I might be able to get away with just doing better axles.
Also:
- This car will not be taken to the track
- There will be no launching of this car
For for the valvetrain, do you folks think I have what I need? Should I change brands?
Thanks so much guys, I'm really looking forward to doing this over the winter!

I would definately upgrade the rearend with moser axles, there is a guy on the camaroz28 forum that built his rearend for around 850 bucks and it withstands brutal launches on the 10 bolt.

1.6 rockers will be fine, just make sure you install the springs at the recommended install height. Do the guideplates with non self aligning roller rockers. I wish I had done that mod a long time ago!

Yes, the comp push ruds will be fine, sounds to me like you are on the right trach, hope you dont yake it to the track on slicks, that thing will be making enough torque to let you know what is weak and needs replacing.

I personaly went with a set of Cro-moly hardend pushrods for the lil extra price....Thunder has their cro-moly pushrods for around $110, but seems like you're on the right track, and I'd also recomend the guide plates as well

Thanks for the insight from both of you! but I'm just trying to make it last at least 4 months or so...if not a little longer. It'll be my weekend car so if the 10 bolt calls it quits I'll just get the 12 bolt. Just need to make it last a couple of months so I can afford it
I dont plan on beating on the car, just a couple of ganks from 30+MPH and NO launching...the car will also NOT have slicks or DRs.
I'll save the 10.5''s for the 12 bolt

honestly, if I do 40mph rolls, how will that play out with ol' grumpy grenade 10 bolt?
