What's the details about these L-19 studs I read about? Are they a direct fit? Or do the heads/block need to be modified to fit them?

A1 fasteners, they can make a stock diameter stud that will take 140lb/ft tq.

ARP makes the L-19 studs the are about $450 for a set. I have them on the black car and the orange car has 1/2 inch head studs both seem to be working good.

i am blowing out head gaskets at moderate boost and super safe tune, this is on my truck. 5.3 is running strong so far. i have some kind of problem with my set up right now. my first step is a fresh set of head studs but i was thinking about upgrading from the standard arp's.

The ARP L19 studs just screw right in, no modifications needed and you torque them to 100 ft-lbs vs the 70 ft-lbs of the regular ARP studs.

That much added torque isn't hurting the heads any?

I'd be more worried about distorting the block/messing up the ring seal if it wasn't machined with a torque plate at that torque.

Well so far I am running 17.5 lbs with a F1A and no problems. I had a head gasket issue and I talked to cometic and arp and then decided to go with the L-19 studs.

i am running an iron block so that seems unlikely but who knows. i would like to know if there are any down sides to running the L19's at a higher tq.

Interested in this topic as going to be doing up new motor soon. I will never go past 20psi likely not past 15psi if go for lsx block 427 with afr 225 heads. I am keeping my fast 90 intake at least for now. So will I need these more expensive arp or a1 studs or will the regular arp with gm mls gaskets be enough?

i have taken the basic arp's with cometics to 18psi on the track and 22+psi on the dyno. above 18psi on the track and i start hurting things but i am not sure if my tune is optimized.

lately i can't even do 14psi so it seems i have hurt something or something is worn out.

i had the heads surfaced and they still blew out in one run. this time i am going to go with new head studs and recheck the trueness of the heads. we are also going to check the head material. we were told by afr that we want 100 "rockwell" and that 90 was geting too low.

block is iron, studs wouldn't pull out of that would they?

can you check the block deck with it in the truck still?

I seriously doubt you'd rip a L19 stud out of an iron block. I called ARP a long time ago about them and was going to recommend them to you in your other thread, but was banned. After talking to the ARP guy at the special order shop about them I plan on running them in my new engine. He quoted me $419+ S&H on them if I remember correctly.

I just ordered a set of the L19's from LME. I believe you can only order the L19 head studs through them, because of certain contracts. Total with ground shipping came out to $521

Maybe that's something they told you. The ARP guy told me $419 + S&H, but there'd be a 2-3 week waiting period as they didn't / were out of stock (don't remember exactly) of the L19 material.
