If you installed the stat without tuning for the fans to come on earlier it's just not getting cooled down enough when you stop. Try getting a tune and I gurantee it will be solved.

Yeah it wouldn't be boiling over at 215*. Do you have enough glycol in it? Cuz straight water boils at 212* but I am sure you got coolant in there. But with stock water pump, the temp will climb some when stopped cuz the pump simply isn't turning very fast.

If you're running mainly water and little cooland you drop the boiling point by a lot like stated above. Flush it out and start fresh with new coolant and see if the problem continues.

I've used the switch. Barely worked for me and it was a pain in the ***. You're better off getting a tune and just having the fan temp set that way. Trust me, I've tried both ways. I'd sell you my old hypertech but it's for a 95.

if you shut it off with it that hot its probably just heat soak. everything is already hot, you shut the car off and the already hot coolant is just sitting there on hot engine parts. temp goes way up and boils out. if you didnt get the air out of the system when you installed the tstat it will happen more often from air pockets. also wouldnt waste money on a switch. either make your own or get the fans tuned to come on lower

just the one bleeder screw closest to the radiator.
how do i know when all the air is out? i opend it up an it was shooting straight out of the little hole. so i let it do that for a couple seconds then closed it. how do i make my own switch?

Thats weird, I had a 1994 LT1, it had a 180 degree thermostat with the fans reprogrammed for that same setting and it never went over 180, on the highway it would go and stay little bit under 180. You got to bleed both screws, theres one by the throttle body, passenger side, and the other is on the thermostat housing. Make sure both fans turn on with the a/c on, theres a setting that turns your fans off on the highway, that setting is determined by speed and temperature, in other words, if you have a bad/burnt fan motor, you will not notice it on the highway since the car gets enough air to cool engine as its running. When you're at a stop, driver side fan should be on, and when you turn the a/c, secondary fan should also turn on. If they don't turn on, you may have a faulty relay, or a bad/burnt motor. I had a secondary fan fail on me, and it caused a very similar situation to yours. When it overheats, does it do it having the a/c on? have you tried turning off the a/c to see if temperature drops?
