GM847 and similar
Like the title, what cams are similar or bigger than the GM847? Also, I've have been looking around, where can I buy the 847? How well would a cam like this work in a stock head setup? Would it be streetable with a decent stall and good tuning? what are the grind specs with 1.6 rockers? I am looking for something of this size or bigger...Car will be cam only with all the bolt-ons until I can afford a new rear and a 383 stoker...I basically want a cam that is big enough to handle the 383 when I switch over so I don't have to buy another cam...I know I should wait for the 383, but that is 1 or 2 years down the road, and I want to go fast now, lol...

thats where im at now. Your gonna get a lot of hate for doing so cause i did but i did what i wanted to. You can order the cam from summit, but its gotts be a online order or call. They dont list it in there catalog. My car runs real strong on my stock heads but you can make a lot more power with a good set of heads. So with your 383 youll make a ton more power then just a cam only car. I love mine! I got a 3200 converter w/ 3.73 gears. It drives alright on the street but if im crusing between 40-50 mph it has a good amount of cam surge. So say high mph or dont lock up the converter and youll be all good. Check my sig. for idle video of the beast.

Here's a funny question.......due to funding I cant get my heads worked until next spring.....but until then I will have a stock headed 383.....
What cam should i go with? I have a 3000 stall, and would be fine shifting at 6400-6500 rpm......
thoughts?

It really doesn't matter what you go with, since you're not going to be making any power with stock heads on a 383. Just put something cheap in there for now and then do it right when you do the heads and select a cam that will go well with a 383 and your heads.

Wow. This is exactly the thread I'm looking for! Awesome.
I've been told the GM 847 makes great power, but the question is where? Where in the RPM range does the power peak? Does anyone have a dyno graph of this cam on stock heads?
I'm going to be running a stock but rebuilt ci motor with otherwise stock heads, mild porting just to clean them up. That is atleast until next spring until I can buy a set of either Trick Flows or AFRs.
Would it be ok to run this big of a cam with 1.6 RRs and 918 springs on a other wise stock but bolt on motor? Or should I find a custom grind?

The key thing about the XFI cams is that they have more aggressive lobes. This means they get to max lift faster than the GM847. Also, they have more lift which is always more power. The lower LSA gives it more overlap, again, more power. This goes the same for most of the newer shelf grinds out there.
