How to attach 4" pipe to D1SC inlet?

How to attach 4" pipe to D1SC inlet? I made a 4" inlet for my D1SC, but I would really like to find a way to secure the 4" pipe over the blower inlet. Right now I have a 4" silicon coupler, which doesn't fit very well. If I could slide the pipe over the inlet then I would be able to gain alot of clearance. The 4" pipe is about 1/4" bigger than the D1 inlet. I was thinking about sliding some kind of rubber weatherstrip over the end of the pipe, then welding some kind of brackets to the inlet pipe to attach to the bolts that hold the snail housing on.
Also, I made the inlet out of galvanized pipe. Should I paint it or anything to prevent rust?
My stock ATI inlet piece had tiny cracks in it already, right at the seams. I have maybe 400 miles on it, not cool.

We used a 4.00" aluminum 90 degree elbow for this car. The aluminum is soft enough that it draws down to the 3.75" intake side of the ProCharger and provides a tight seal. Bob

Yeah, but I couldn't find an aluminum elbow so I got galvanized. Its not going to compress at all.
Heres a tip for others: By Bobs kit if you want to do this. I spent about $170 doing it myself and had to cut and fit pipes for awhile. I would have bought the EPP kit but my craptastic ATI hat needed replaced and I want to drive my car this weekend. I also originally thought I could do it with one elbow, but needed two. I think it looks nice, and should flow some serious air, but it was a larger pain in the *** than I originally planned. I suppose thats how all projects go.......

Not a solution for everyone - but we do have tight radius 4" plastic bends. The inner section of the bend is actually smoothed out and is not a sharp bend. They can be cut to be made to fit. The bend allows enough room to use a short silicone coupler.
I would use caution tho - this wouldn't the best thing to drive in the rain.

You can find four inch alum elbows on Ebay, which is about the cheapest I have seen them anywhere. Bob

That's what I did except I didn't use any weatherstrip. I just hammered around the pipe and closed it up to fit snug on the blower.
I painted it as well.

That is a pretty crazy intake hat you got there. 
There really are not that many options or should I say room for us is there? 
I am stuck using the small airfilter until I go to a front mount because I just dont have the room for anything right now.

What kind of coupler is that for the filter?
Did you use the accordian (spelling) hose for the filter?
Lastly, your intercooler seems to be closer to the charger than mine. Mine rides right against outside of the bumper, if that makes any sense.
Oh, I guess I am now a believer. lol
