cam for ls1
Well I'm looking to get my 04 GTO to about 350RWHP. I'm going to be doing full exhaust, and a cai. What cam is going to get me to my goal and idle pretty good? TIA

Most cams, even big ones, will idle good if you have a good tuner. Yes, even a small cam will require a tune. When you say you want it to idle good, do you mean without a lot of lope? Lots of factors to consider. Is this a M6 or A4 car? If A4, are you going to swap in a higher stall converter? Is this a daily driver? What valve springs do you plan to run and what other valve train updates do you intend to do (if any)? Do you want to retain as much low and mid range torque as possible or do you want high RPM HP?

Why are you guys showing him the dyno for a big cam when you don't even know all of his goals? I would certainly not recommend a Mega Death cam for a daily driver. That is too much of a sacrifice in driveability. Let me guess, you will now try to claim it drives like stock in stop and go traffic. I'm within about 25 HP of your monster cam with my little baby cam and I have an A4 which don't dyno as well as the M6.

LPE GT2-3. It will idle like stock and nobody will know there is a cam in there. I had Dynatech long tubes and cats into the stock catback, Speed Inc cold air, SLP pulley, 160 t-stat, and a tune. 368/360. Added GMPP LS6 heads, 393/380.
Great baby cam that runs like stock. I even rode around with the stock tune for a couple of months without any problems. Your goals don't need a big cam at all.

Talk to who ever is going to do your work, tell them your goals. I know you say you only want 350 to the ground but as soon as you get it you will want more. I had 238 242 .605 .610 113 and it sounded great and made great power. The idle was good and pulled awesome up top. Whatever you decide good luck and enjoy.

When I put heads on my car (like you already have) I will be closer to 460 so you are within 65whp with your baby cam, whooohoo that is close.
OOPAKLE, all arguing aside it really depends on what your goals are for the car down the road. Do you want people to know you have a cam, do you mind a slight shimmy at idle (Personaly I think its cool). Now a days with a good tune the car will idle just fine. Send me a pm and I can discuss this with you further, If you prefer to talk in person you can give me a call,
Take it easy.

Hope you have good valve springs and upgraded valvetrain to take full advantage of the high RPM HP. Since 95% of my driving is below 5k RPM, I prefer useable power in the low to mid range. It's a matter of personal preference. To each their own. Glad you like your big cam and hope it's fitting into your goals, enjoy. But, that don't mean it's right for everyone. We still need more info before we can make a reasonable recommendation for Oopakyle.

i like to say dont make the mistake i made with cam, i got the LS6 2002, 550 lift 218/204 dur w117 lsa. no lope sound and idles 600 rpm. fyi any high lift cam needs better springs. a popular cam on the board here has been the tr224. good luck!

well if you only want 350 then you should be able to achieve if not come really close with just blot ons........ udrive pulley, ported tb to go along with the exh.... and by full exh. i am thinking your getting longtubes as well.

My goals aren't a high rpm car. I don't go to the track anymore so this is going to be a strictly street driven car. It's an M6, forgot to add that I guess. Does anyone use the hotcam anymore? I guess it's probably outdated a long time ago, but I've had it in an lt1 and it was pretty good. I've never owned an LS1 before, 350rwhp can be had with bolt ons? Besides full exhaust, what else would be needed? I can do all the work myself so that'll help keep the price down. Also don't have any plans on upgrading the vavletrain right now except for vavle springs if needed. So again, no super RPM monster lol.

Why are you people even recommending cams for this guy when all he wants is 350whp. That can be obtained with boltons. I would recommend him my cam in my sig but his goals can be obtained w/o one.

Because people always want more than they say. Your are correct that he can get there with boltons. If he wants to keep it stock sounding he could get a smaller cam a fast intake and UD pulley and will still sound stock but put down some good power. He could even add some heads. If he wants to keep it quiet he just has to choose hit headers and exhaust accordingly.
