Building a block for FI
As some of you know, I'm going to be needing a new block. This is a first for me so I would like to get a discusion going on what makes for the best, most power/reliable engine. I'm pretty sure I want to use the lsx iron block, just not sure how to size it. Is it always better to go bigger? Example: say I spin my blower the same(max rpm) with a 346 and a 408. If I understand correctly, the 408 will make much less boost but how will the power output compare?

My goals continue to grow so that's a hard one. I originaly thought I would be happy with an 11 second car lol. I'll just say 800-1000rwhp, mid 9s and have room to grow when I want more. Also be strong enough to hold these power levels for more than just a few passes.

Many will say that the D1 is too small for the 408 but this was the combo I was going to run anways as there are a few on here closely aproaching 800rwhp with this combo. I ended up picking up a barely used turbo kit instead for a great deal otherwise I'd be D1/408.
The F1 matches up better if you want room to grow, unless you aren't happy with 750-800rwhp I say go with the D-1. You can always buy the F1 head unit and sell yours later if you want to upgrade. I see you already have the FMIC so you are golden there.
Good luck man

The only issue i see with growing after running 9sec pass ,weekend in & Weekend out ,is Money ,it takes alot more money,I mean sure Alot of people on this board & Other boards can build a motor & Put an d1,f1 & Run in the 10s ,Low10s allday long ,then once u get tired of that point ,trying to get it to run faster is really gonna take alot more money ,something i have a hard time with myself ,is to try to be content with running 10sec pass Day in & Day out ,& Calling it a day ,I know there are some guys on the board running in the 9s,8s ,in the qrtr mile ,But i personally am not willing to chop up my street car to & To throw out all the Xtra $ to go a sec quicker

Maybe a goofy question, but is it harder to keep a blower belt on a big stroker?
If you run a 346-364ci (LS1 - LS2), and boost it 20 psi, you will be running some race gas. I went 9.40@143mph with 18 psi and a 8:1 348ci a few years ago.

Race gas is not a problem, I don't put a lot of miles on it.

The LSX block will be strong enough for anything you do for years to come, but you pay a weight penalty. The LS2 block stock will drive your car into the 9's without trouble, but it may not be enough to turn the dyno to 900rwhp+. Some rwhp numbers depend on your driveline and the type of dyno used.
The more air a sc delivers, the harder it works, boost psi is secondary.

louis, for durability and price, i would go with an iron 370. especially since you seem partial to stock'ish cubes.
we actually did an LSX 370 with a D-1SC for a customer not too long ago.

this customer has to pass the sniffer when he goes in for emissions. he actually puts his stock exhaust mani's and cats back on the car to get tested. so it's on pump gas, low boost, and mild heads/cam. It made over 580rwhp, but it was very limited.
i'm sure the motor louis will end up with will be a lot nastier.
