What Short Stick? Ok so im looking to get a short stick for my Pro 5.0. I have heard alot of good things about the Lous Short Stick, The WS6 Store Short Stick, and the UMI short stick. So let me know which one i should get...

Honestly, I do not recommend getting a short-stick. It makes a fast car with a lot of power harder to shift. Sure it looks cooler, not having that huge shifter handle sticking out of the console but think about it from a physics standpoint;
the shorter the lever, the closer the force applied to the fulcrum, the more force needs to be applied to move the lever. The longer the lever, the further the force is applied from the fulcrum, the less force needs to be applied to move the same mass.
When shifting a car with a lot of power, and trying to do it fast and efficiently at the track, a short stick is a liability. When power is going through the trany, the syncro's tend to bind, this means that more force has to be applied during the shift to move the syncro. If you are moving it with a longer lever [standard stick] you need to apply less force to it than if you are moving it with a shorter stick. That means that with the stock pro 5.0 handle you can shift faster because less force needs to be applied.
I have a good example; A friend of mine had a 427 built for his SS. He had a pro 5.0 with a Lous Short Stick. We had a rental day and he missed 3rd gear about 80% of the time. He asked me what was wrong, I told him to get the stock stick back on it. He did, the next week we went to the track, he hit 3rd 100% of the time.
I think when it comes to short sticks for shifters is a simple choice, looks or performance. Which matters most to you?

I kind of disagree with the above post to an extent. I feel that shifting is just as easy, if not easier and quicker with a smaller stick. By the law of mathmatics he is correct in the sense that theoritically having more leverage should make it easier to shift, but for what ever reason, the short stick seems easier to shift than the stock length stick ever did (at least for me).

My friend had a lou's short stick in his car with the pro 5.0, drove it once...and all i can say is I still have my stocker that came in my SS, Not saying anything bad about the pro 5.0, but I didnt like the LSS, Also my friend misses 3rd from time to time..

I have the Pro 5.0 with the LSS and it isn't to bad. I have missed 3rd before, but not sure if its from the stick or not really focusing on what im doing. I might just go back to the stock Pro 5.0 stick since i had to take off my MBA Shift ball since i would jam my thumb on center console when doing the 1-2 since the ball is so big.

I have been using a UMI short stick/stock Hurst combo for almost 3 yrs. I wouldnt trade it for anything. I think the angle put on it is perfect. I have driven other setups and this one works for me the best by far.
The biggest difference when going from the stock stick to an aftermarket isnt the length of it IMO, it's the rigidity of it. The stock one has the rubber isolator bushing and feels like your shifting with a rubber broom handle. The shifts are far from precise.
The other ones are solid mounted to the shifter, which creates the notchier feel and vibrations felt/heard. There's nothing there to absorb these sounds and feelings anymore. Now you have a rigid connection from shifter stick, to shifter, to transmission.

if a short stick causes you to miss shifts, you probably need more practice.
i've got the Pro5.0/LSS, and i've never missed a shift when i've powershifted it....the only time i ever miss anything is when i'm driving normally and not really paying attention to what i'm doing, and release the clutch a split second too soon, before it's fully in gear.
but that happened on occasion with the stock shifter, too.
i just can't stand feeling like i'm shifting a big rig with that stupid, tall-*** stock-length shifter stick

.. the point of the short stick is self explanatory. its not for better looks, although they come as a bonus. the point is so you have a shorter throw for each shift, thus making them faster. go get some dumbells if you think its too hard to shift.

I have the pro 5.0 and the LSS in my car and I love it. I have never missed 3rd pro 5.0 has some special thing with it that makes 3rd easy to find which I don't remember the specifics but I am going to say this, its not for everybody the SS but it works for me and I love it and I feel my driving is improved with it. My DD is a celica with stock shiter and stock height stick and I shift my SS a hell of alot faster maybe its me, maybe its the shifter and stick combo but I know it works and im happy.

I got the WS6store 6" stick. I think I got it from them for like 25 bucks shipped. I love it, and personally I think it's helped me drive better at the track...could be all in my head but I didn't miss a single shift at the track all year this year and my shifts feel quick, solid, and precise. I think it's just a matter of picking a shifter, sticking to it, and becoming comfortable with it. And for only 25 bucks, you can try it and if you don't like it you can just sell it.
