LSx Miata so people have been swaping in LSx's into miatas, i am looking to do the same though i am looking at the rwd version of the ls4, 303hp ect... for those who know, my question is would the rwd ls4 (from the trucks) fit into a regular LSx kit?

Good question. I would think they would be the same, being as how they are the same family. I wouldn't take my word for it though.

All the cars listed are FWD, but it does say "a version of this engine is adapted for transverse front-wheel drive application".
The LS4 is a smaller 5.3 L (325 in³) version of the Generation IV block. Though it has the same displacement as the Vortec 5300 LH6, it differs in that it has an aluminum block rather than an iron one and it uses the same cylinder head as the Generation III LS6 engine.
A version of this engine is adapted for transverse front-wheel drive application. In order to fit into the smaller engine compartments designed for V-6s, in the front-wheel drive Pontiac Grand Prix GXP, for instance, the LS4 engine block had to be shortened by one inch. Displacement on Demand is also used. Output of this version is 303 hp (226 kW) and 323 ft·lbf (438 N·m).

Yes its an aluminum FWD only engine and isn't in the trucks. It has a different bellhousing pattern then the standard V8. And won't bolt to standard 4l60/80 trans.

The 5.3 in the old body style C/K trucks is iron block, new ones have aluminum block and DOD, There is a aluminum block 5.3 HO in the Envoy with DOD, different RPO. I believe that the SSR had an aluminum block 5.3 non DOD as well. For a RWD application i dont know why you would use a LS4?

im using this kit here, http://www.v8roadsters.com/ real nice kit and company, i was looking at the ls4 because it puts out 303hp and 323ftlb at half the price of an ls1's 315hp i plan to modify it anyways so im going to make up that little bit of difference but it looks like im going to be going with the ls1 instead, im not going with the ls2 because those are still going for about 7 grand.
can the ssr bolt up to the t56 without a new housing? and does it have the same mount points at the ls1?

BTW, all LS1's make 345hp/375ft.lbs no matter what they are "rated" at by GM.

I have made my own ls6 383 miata before the racingconcepts conversion. Here is my site, but i have lost a lot of pictures and need time to repost them at my site. www.ls1miata.net But to answer your ? yes it will work. The blocks are pretty much the same it all comes down to whichif you use the vette accersories or the camaro. I chose the camaro. OThers have done this conversion...go to miataforums.com engine conversion section. Hope this helps

ok so the 5.3 truck block is pretty much the same or the ssr's block?
to answer the question about the diff, some of the first monster miatas ran the stock 1.8's diff, they worked with no problems, however most people use the ford 7.5 or 8.8, the new kit from v8roadsters uses the CTS's diff which is the one im prob going to go with since its built for the lsx anyways... and comes with a stock lsd
