Default my LS2 Firebird on Nurburgring

I was able to drive on Nurburgring about a month ago and I got it on tape! I finally got it uploaded on Youtube, so here it is. I had never been on the track before, or even played it in video games, so my four laps where a blast! It was a very challenging track and I don't know if I'll ever drive it at 100%, but it was still an awesome experience.

For those who don't know the Nurburgring in Germany, here's a quick excerpt:
"Once nicknamed Die Grüne Hölle (the Green Hell), the North Loop includes most of the historic Nürburgring. These facts may help you put it in perspective: 13 miles long, over 170 turns (depending on how you count them), about 1000 feet of elevation change from lowest to highest points, a two-mile long straightaway, and four towns and a 12th-century castle are located within its perimeter."

Here's my last lap in two parts, about 5 min each:

I'm just lucky, lol. One of the benefits of living in Germany I'm going to try and make it to Hockenheim, GE and Spa, Belgium next summer too

I think I got it up to 140mph at the track, but the start/stop is in the middle of the straight. Luckily, there are some nice straight sections of autobahn without that problem

Yea, it's a 911.

Take a look at the Karussell turn in the second video. There's a guy hanging out the window of the black car taking pictures of the red 911; people do everything out there!

I wanna visit the n-ring so bad!
What are your suspension mods? What brake mods? Any weight reduction?

Yea, I know. I don't even want to risk wrecking my car, so I gave myself sanity checks every now and then.

I have sub-frame connectors and tubular K-member, A-Arms, upper and lower panhard rods; also, a strut tower brace. Bilstein shocks with Eibach Pro springs. Larger sway bars are on as well.

Baer 13" Track Plus brakes in front and 13" Tracks in back, both slotted and drilled. It also has the Hydroboost brake system.

I don't have any real weight reduction done to it, the tubular suspension parts may have saved some weight. I've added weight though with Second Skin in the interior, a 10" sub and amplifier in the trunk. I moved the battery to the trunk to help with weight distribution though.

Great vids, you Warthog guys never fail to impress!

The car seems to be understeering quite a bit on corner entry...I had the same problem w/ my '82 after the LS1 swap and had to experiment with suspension mods.

Mine dialed in with new WS6 front springs, minus 1/2 coil to get the ride height down to normal...it was nose-up until I lopped them...and a 34mm hollow GM front swaybar.

I'd been running Moog 5662 front springs and a 36mm hollow GM bar with the L98 engine, but it was just too stiff w/ the lighter LS1 and wouldn't turn into corners without dragging the front tires. I tested springs on the street until I settled on the GM pieces, then took three swaybars to Pocono Raceway and spent three track sessions testing each one.

I'd recommend you try a softer front swaybar just to gauge the effect, assuming you're happy with the ride the Eibach springs are giving you...eg. not too stiff. I like soft springs and stiff swaybars for a street car personally.

PS: consider turning into the corners a tad later...looks like you're turning in early and apexing early, which forces you to the outside of the track on corner exit.

Thanks for the tips! There is a lot of understeer on the car.

I'm sure I missed every apex too, I'm going to have to follow some guys who know the track before I'll figure it out.

Get a 34mm hollow bar or 32mm solid, you'll lose some additional weight up front and help plant the front tires.

There's a lady at the local bar (Pisten Klaus?) nicknamed "The Queen of the Ring" and when I was there she'd take passengers to show the line. I think her name was Sabine Schmidt.
