Shifter movement...
Can anyone give me any info on this problem... When the car is in any gear, I can move the shifter side to side about half an inch or more. It goes into gear very smoothly, but when its in it has so much slack... Just wondering if this is a small fix or possibly a bigger problem... M6 tranny...
Thanks, Matt.

Ummm... that sounds pretty crazy. You might wanna pull your shifter off and see if there's play in the pivot point. Because unless the shifter housing isn't bolted down to the tranny, that's the only cause I could think of.
Is it the factory shifter? How many miles? This sounds extremely weird.

Thanks for the info... It's a 2000 SS, and has 43000Kms on it, stock shifter. Just wondering if this might possibly be a costly issue... One of my friends mentioned that it might possibly be the bushings... I don't know alot about this stuff myself, but thanks again for your input.

Take out your center console and look at your shifter. You should be experiencing loud vibrations of there is that much slack in the shifter handle. Its possible that the two bolts that connect your stick to the bottom shifter house are coming apart (this will happen over time due to various vibrations from the drivetrain). Take off your center console and see if they are loose. If they are, put some thread lock on them and tighten them back up, that would solve the problem.

If it's the stock shifter, I can imagine it's that big, dumb, rubber bushing that the shifter handle sits in. When my car was brand new it was just a sloppy mess. I take it you haven't replaced it with one of the "short-stick" handles? That would be a cheap and easy fix if you haven't.

what fran said.
the stock stick has that annoying bushing to reduce vibration...but it puts alot of play into the stick.
for $30 you can put a short stick on there and it will feel like a new shifter.
ebay, ws6store, or do a search for the Lou's short stick (little more$$ but a DAMN nice stick)
