Default Oil Psi Question.

OK, my car has over 100k miles. its a cam and bolt on car. i use 10w30 synthetic oil.

i have a ported ls6 oiil pump aswell.

now my question is. Is it bad if my oil pressure goes over the 3/4 line on heave throttle or WOT? i remember reading something its suppose to stay under 50. if im not mistaken, that 3/4 line is 50psi. should i get a 0w30 oil? or find something thinner? A idle once car has been driving around, and fully warmed up. the psi is @ about 38-39 psi when cold bout 41-42. i have some piston slap to. so ima try a new oil this next oil change.

what do you guys think? is my oil pressure fine? or do you recomend something thinner? i think they have 5w20. i dont remember at the moment.

thanks for all help, and support in advance.

I've already read that 10psi per 1000rpm is what you need... but my car idles around 38-40psi.

so if my car redlines @ 6600 rpms. thats alil over 60 psi...your car idles bout the same psi as mine. between 38-40. somedays are different. 10 psi per 1k rpms sounds alil to much. i could be wrong tho. i havnt read that anywhere.

10psi per 1k rpm is old school. These new motors don't need that much. My 07 Av only gets like 25 at idle. My Gen 1 got like 50 at idle....

With piston slap don't you want to run something thicker? I run Valvoline 20/50 vr1 racing oil in all my rides.......1999 SS Camaro, 1969 SS chevelle, 2007 ZX10r ninja, 1988 Jeep.....Recomended by the guys @ speed-o-motive who did the machine work on my 496 stroker.

YEA, BUT wont that make my oil pressure even higher? im just trying to make sure its not TO high! if its fine that it passes 50psi @ WOT then i wouldnt have a problem going with alil thicker oil. im just not sure yet if its the rite choice to make.

mine has the ported LS6 oil pump to0 and mine has been that high(over 50) since i have owned the car(3 months), i was concerned at first but I figured the more oil pressure the better, but now i am curious if there are any ill effects

I use 10w30 mobil one

Mine used to idle at about 41-42 hot. Now its about 19-21 hot. Im gonna replace the o ring to see if it cures some of the problem. Its been gradually decreasing. It still goes up with giving it some gas and hits 50psi at WOT. So, im not thinking its the oil pump. What worries me is that while im cruising it sits at around 30psi when it used to be about 41-43psi.....
