Question Oil pump?

Everyone,

What is the stock oil pump on the 04 gto? is it the ls2 pump? Reason asking is I bought a cam shaft package and a comp cam timing set.. and I know it is usually recommened to get a heavy duty oil pump. Is the stock one sufficent? The shop I'm going to recommened a melling heavy duty oil pump... for 139. what should I do?

I think it depends on how many miles you have on the motor. When you have it all apart it's easy to swap the pump out. I just swapped my oil pump when I did my cam but I have 110k miles. If you have low miles I would leave it alone.

I doubt the shop is trying to screw you over; the only thing they'd be able to charge for is the pump itself because the labor is already covered with the timing set (have to take the oil pump off anyway).

It's good insurance, but not always necessary depending on the circumstances like massls1guy said.
