Newbish t56 question
this is a pretty newbish question but here it is im really wanting to buy a 6 speed car but for some reason im scared sometime i might be shifting to 3rd and accidentally hit 1st or something like that and throw or bend a rod, i kno it sounds unlikely but has this happened to anyone on here? seems like all the manual tranny cars ive ever driven wont let you down shift into an over rev instead they just grind and wont let you go into the lower gear until your speed is down enough, but that was just at lower rpms and easy throws though so im assuming that on a t56 if you were pushin it and really throwin the shifts hard you could possibly accidentally shift down and seriously screw your engine, any thoughts on this? and i kno this thread makes me sound like a 5 year old girl whos only ever driven a honda 4 cyl with a manual tranny but im actually pretty good at manuals but by no means a pro. sorry for the extremely long post.

It's just a matter of learning your car cause each one is a lil different. Once you learn where the engine is at different speeds/different gears...you won't worry as much. By the way it will save your engine a lot of wear to rev to the appropriate rpm range when downshifting.

Just learn the T56 slowly before doing any gear banging and WOT runs. I'm a new LS1 M6 owner and also new to manual transmissions. Took me just two days to get used to driving this car (first day I stalled 5-6 times at stoplights lol and grinded once).

the t56s are a nice tight tranny i have been driving stick for years and this one is the best of all. I have never had any trouble with it wanting to go back into first when i was goin for third. Just get used to how the shifter slides and you will have no problem slammin gears all day long!!!!!

I wouldnt say the stock t56 shifter is the nicest one ive driven.... (worst actually) but 30 dollar short stick and problem solved. Anyone whos taken out the stock shifter stick will know that its a over enginered turd that quiets the shifter noise but is too long and makes you miss third. As for driving the ls1 m6 i have to say its one of the easiest stick shifts to drive you basically have to jump off the clutch with no gas to stall it out. try driving one of the new civics

happened to me once but luckily when i put it in first it was only at 4600 RPM but ever since that i've never done it anymore and it is hard and it try's not to let you put it into that lower gear

I only stalled my car once and it was because i forgot the handbrake was up and i was in reverse with music on trying to pull back, so i never seen the rpms drop lol. I got mine last year and never stalled it learning to drive it. Its so easy to push the clutch back in and catch the engine from stalling.
