Default What is the limit of a stock 10 bolt rearend ?

i am wondering how much power the stock rearend can take. i have some bolt-ons and suspension mods currently. my next wave of mods will be sfc's, panhard bar, lca's & torque arm. will i have to worry about my rearend with that stuff and some sticky tires? or will i be alright until i add alot more power(h/c)?

You can't really put a horespower threshold on the 10 bolt. There have been stock cars that have broken them. If your car is an auto you'll probly be ok for awhile. If it's a manual you should start looking for a replacement, especially if you plan on using sticky tires. If you run around on radials you can play on some borrowed time like I did! 4 passes on slicks and mine was done! This link may help you, Good Luck!

it 100% realative. and like said above you can't put a specific number on it. i put a god amount of power through my stock 10 bolt but i didn't have traction. I knew it was just a matter of time. Some have good luck with the 10 bolts.

Torque is not what kills a 10-bolt or any drivetrain component for that matter. It's the sudden shock to the driveline that can be lethal.

it is all relative! TQ is what gets you rollin, even when you roll into the power
the TQ is what affects the ring and pinion. the teeth on a 10-bolt 7.5-7.625 are too small and upon acceleration the gears flex(distort)and they weaken that's why you will notice most of these failures are the gears getting the teeth ripped off....

It's takes a full BMR suspension, over 400 RWHP, drag radials and a 2500 RPM launch to break one...........

Don't ask me how I know.

I've broke three - two "built" all N/A - no power booster whatsoever; that 1-2 shift from an M6 with a Kevlar clutch is brutal!

my friend runs 10.7 @ 125 on his completely stock 10 bolt, even stock gears. 1.4x 60's. I sheered 3 teeth off my 3.73s in my stock 10 bolt with a stock engine. no one really knows the answer to this question lol.

My stock rear with a 373 gear lasted for quite a few bottom 11 sec passes and low 1.5 60fts. This was also in a light weight car with a race weight around 3150lb. Never had any problems with it at the track, then out of blue I cracked the pinion gear in about 10 places just driving around on the street.

I think in a light car with an automatic a good setup 10bolt will last in the 10s.

No... it's not "all relative." What rips off teeth is sudden shock. You can have a completely stock engine and if you pop the clutch enough your gears/carrier will **** the bed. Automatics w/ 10-bolts actually have been known to last longer than 10-bolts connected to a manual tranny. Every wonder why?

Wheelhop from lack of traction will kill them just as fast which is repeated FAST shocks.

It really does come down to shock loads.

Right, because it allows more resistence to driveline parts when torque is instantly applied.
