I got mine fired up on Saturday. I had one ecu ground issue to fix and a slight acessory drive problem, but everything else went great. I had wait4me do a mail order tune and it seems to work perfectly. Quite responsive for such huge ports on the heads. It's still on the stands though. Here are a couple pics.

The color on the valve covers, timing cover and valley cover is the color the rest of the car is going to be. It's a candy pearl. It will be painted later this month. I made the mount plates.

The coil covers will be painted that orange too. I'll be making end plates for them probably tomorrow.

whose sheetmetal intake is that?
Looks nice especially the headers. What kind of PS pump is that and what fittings did you end up using?

It's mine, hehe. I built the intake, headers, accessory brackets, coil covers, and motor mount plates.
The power steering pump is a KRC cast iron unit. KRCpower.com It uses -10 inlet and -06 outlet. The outlet fitting is also the flow control and is replaceable. There are 14 different GPMs available. I went with one 2 steps less flow than the one it came with because the pump is going to be spinning faster than with my other motor and it there was too much assistance before.
I should be able to post a little video in a couple days.

VERY nice - and I'm going to freely admit that I'm pirating the idea of the painted coil covers for my own conversion (since I should be able to bust 'em out pretty quickly on my sheetmetal brake)...

I smell a licensing fee....;)
Thanks for the compliments on the coil covers. They really clean up the area nicely.

Why did you mount the throttle body upside down?
It gets the ugly part towards the bottom and the throttle arm to the proper side.

Any one that uses my coil covers for inspiration should post their finished product in this thread. That's my "license fee."
I just welded the end plates on. I'll get a pic posted tomorrow. Welding that thin shit is a major pita.

All ls1s have that steam line. It allows any steam that builds up in the heads to make its way out.

The coil covers look much better than the bare coils, but they do detract from the intake. The best look is aftermarket valve covers with relocated coils. That makes the intake look huge. I loved how it looked before I put the coils on.
I may do that at some point, but for now the coil covers are staying.

I took the car for a ride today! The LS7 clutch with the mechanical linkage is a little tricky. It feels grabby and getting moving smoothly is hard. I'm hoping it gets easier as it breaks in. Everything else works great.
I got into the throttle a little and it pulls great. I didn't get dare to go too nuts though, the roads are pretty sandy from the snowplows last weekend.
The car is going for paint this weekend. My uncle owns the shop so he allowed me to do some of the work. Lot's of looks at the gas station :D

So how much is it gonna cost me when you build my sheetmetal intake for my single carbed LS1?????

Damn , love that intake.
How much to make me one???
Hotrod406
03-26-2008, 11:10 PM
That thing took forever to build, I'd have to charge at least $2000 to build another one, intake and rails only.
It wouldn't be worth in on a carbed motor. The cast ones are at least as good as anything I could do.
I mainly built this one because there aren't any good manifolds for L92 heads. I had one on my last motor too and I like the looks of them. Plus it's a fun challenge.
Just a few more days till I bring it to The Shop for paint. I'm hoping I can drive it a couple more times before then, although its rattiness is a little embarrassing.

I'm about 35 mins south of Grand Rapids down here in cornfield country.
I made a bracket that goes down from the water pump to the alternator and one that goes from the AC compressor bolt bosses forward. Parts of the front bracket are visible in some of the pictures on the first page. I'll get some more tomorrow and add them.

I've heard that too, but I've never had a problem with this setup. I had a similar intake on my body dropped S10 and in the Corvette before this one and I passed tech several times at an NHRA track.
The car is at the body shop right now and I should get it back in 3-4 weeks. I don't think I'm going to be able to take any progress pictures, but I'll post lots when I get it back.

It's back from paint!
I just have a couple pictures for now. It was too late in the day to get any really good ones.
The wait4me tune is incredible for mail order. The plugs look good and it pulls hard above 4500. I'll get EFI live later this summer for fine tuning but it's not urgently needed at all.

where did you get the coolant fittings for the front of the head?
i tapped my heads out and run a 90 degree NPT/AN fitting there.
its a lil tight on the head. the fitting rubs as you turn to tighten it.
i had a set of billet spacers/adapters from wagner, but didnt like the design. they were really nice pieces though.
Hotrod406

I made those. Originally I had steel -04 fittings welded to the stock cast iron steam line bosses but they leaked. I didn't know they were cast iron when I started welding them and water kept leaking out due to porosity created during welding. The fittings on there now are aluminum scrap with leftover -04 nipples welded on. I think I spent about 30 minutes making both. Way less time than I spent trying to make the stock ones seal.
Can you post some pictures of your setup and the wagner fittings?

Love that color!!
i cant find the wagner site to save my life.
they are billet pieces, black anodized, that bolt to the stock steam hole location with a nice stainless allen screw. it even recesses in the fitting. then off to the side has pipe threads to run a pipe fitting from there.
its o ringed, and even has the nipple to locate it on the head.
they are about 5/8" thick, and about the shape of an advil liquid gel.
i dont have them here, or i would take a pic. they are at my shop.
stood up a lil too high for my tastes. but my tastes are strange. id sell them resonablly if anyone wanted them. 10+ ship for the pair. i think they were 15 each new.
here is what i run now. best pic i have. head tapped 1/8", with 1/8x-4an 90 adapter fittings.

You're spelling it wrong is why you can't find it. It's Wegner. Here are the pieces you are talking about.

That's what I should have done, it looks very clean that way. The heads were already bolted on when I got to that part.
I saw the website with those fittings but I was getting towards the end of the winter and sick of spending money.

I came across your thread digging around for info on L92 valves. I know this is a few years old now, but I gotta say you pulled off a very nice intake manifold. Did you machine the flanges yourself? Are the runners bent and welded sheet? Did you do any design calculations on plenum volume, runner length/volume, etc?
Nice work. The car looks great!
