Need help with repair/arcing coils?!
I have a 1999 Pontiac Trans Am because it was having a really bad idle problem, stumbling when accelerating. I took it to a shop and they told me it was due to arcing on the coils, 2 coils are bad and they need to be replaced. THey quoted me $957! Is this the right diagnosis and could i do this job myself? I really dont have a grand to pay for this to get fixed.

so if i just buy the new 8 replacement coils, its pretty much just plug and play? would the bad coil be a legitimate reason to the dip in idle and stumble? i figured it would throw a code and turn on the ses light

"One problem you might run into is buying coils that are on a bracket where as yours are mounted right to the valvecover because you have a 99."
Only the 98's are bolted to the valve cover. 99-02 are on a bracket.
"would the bad coil be a legitimate reason to the dip in idle and stumble?"
Yes, and it may not throw the code as you are experiencing.
