Default Typical grinding noise for all T56s?

Hello,

Every T56 F-body I have driven has made this noise. If your rpms get too low in a gear (lets say 500-800), such as when you're easing away from a stoplight in first, I hear a metallic swishing / grinding noise. Auto F-bodies I've driven haven't done this, but then again the auto doesn't let the rpms get that low.

The sound happens in every gear if you let the rpms get that low. I'm starting to think that maybe it's just the valvetrain of the engine. Then again, I drove a 97 WS6 that makes the same noise.

I don't think noise is harmful, I'm just curious as to why our cars make this noise.

Sounds like clutch issues.

i know what your talking about. does not sound like a clutch issue at all. that being said, i cant say exactly what it is, except that it sounds like the internals of the tranny, maybe just because its moving so slow. again, no idea if thats correct, but i would rule out clutch issues, since ive heard it on cars with good clutches, like mine

Yeah, that sounds about right. I would say the sound is similar to diesel engine clatter or something like that.

Do you have LT's? It might be your headers hitting your K-member if it wasn't notched. Thats the prob. the same noise mine makes, notched the K, no more noise.

Nope, no LTs. It's as stock as they come. I've driven two 2002 Z28s, a 97 WS6, and a 93 Z28. They were all 6 speeds, and every single one of these cars has made this noise.

All of those cars were stock, BTW.

Its think its like an input bearing noise. I have heard it to in my lt1 as well as my buddy's ls1 trans before and after he rebuilt it with better parts.
