Default 9 inch rear

ok I have a friend with a 9 inch rear from a 2005 f150 and it needs a new ring and pinion but he is asking 100 for the complete rear. my uncle said he can convert it to work with my car for 600. do yall think this is a good way to go or am I better off eating the other 1000 and ordering one thats already made up?

Go through and add up the TOTAL costs. Driveshaft changes, new rear brakes, boltpattern conversion, try and think of all those things and then add some for the inevitable surprises. See if it still makes sense to try then.

you might want to check and make sure it really is a 9in ford rear, they stopped using them in production cars and trucks in the early to mid 80s

Could it be an 8.8" then??

I do not know jack about Fords I just thought that the 8.8 was used in the Exploder would make sense if the light f-trucks used it too.

Only stuff that makes sense using from old 9" rears is the center chunk, the rest is useless to an Fbody guy. Although I made my 9" for under $1K.

a 9" housing neww axels and touq arm mount is less then $1000 mins the center section, look at this link and its about the same from other brands. just keep in mind you wont be able to have abs unless you have a 4 channel setup
