Default Who did what?

Im getting springs to lower my car. I was just wondering how many people took this somewhere to do it. I don't have a spring compressor so that is the only issue. but I was wondering about how much it would cost.

I just installed all my shocks and springs on saturday, it wasn't hard, its just time consuming. As for the springs i just took them up to my local tire shop and they pressed the springs for me for 20 bucks.

Yea its all up to you about springs. I bought a set of compressors for what the shop will do it for. If you arent planning on installing more springs down the line just have it done. Otherwise buy you a set and do it cause it isnt too hard at all

took me only a couple hours, including doing on a 30 mile round trip to get a shock bolt kit after shearing off the lower mounting bolt on one of the rear shocks. also some sitting around and just looking at the car.

id say do it yourself, its good experience.

I just installed my Hotchkis Springs and Koni 4/4s today. The front took a little about 2 hours and the rear took me about 30 min. There not hard at all and you can rent a spring compressor at Autozone.

You can also borrow a spring compressor from Autozone.

Just be prepared, though, if you have a good number of miles on the car, you may need to cut/split the top nut on the front shocks. Both sides were corroded on my car.

Have fun!

Just be very careful when you're setting the spring compressor in place, and make sure it's secure. There's a LOT of stored energy there.

(I'm not saying don't do it, as it's very satisfying working on your own car and seeing what you can accomplish. Spring work can be a little tricky sometimes, and believe me, I've done quite a few of them over the years. Just be very careful and don't rush....at least on the fronts. The rears, they practically change themselves.)

depends on how you do it... i was lucky enough to get a strut assembly with the shocks and springs i wanted already mounted

if you are able to take both front struts out (pretty easy job), use plenty of pb blaster, especially on the swaybar endlinks... or just cut them off and get the energy suspension ones for $15.

you'll need a T40 bit and you will have to move the brake master cylinder out of the way. that is the most annoying part of the job other than the swaybar endlinks.

after you take the strut assembly off you can take them to a suspension shop and have them install the springs you want. it will run you about $120-150, maybe less. then you can install the strut assembly without the stress of using a spring compressor. it's not scary or a big deal to use one, just be careful and aware of what's going on as mentioned above.

the rears are cake, don't pay somebody to do those.
