Pinning the crank with a double roller, not possible?

Default Pinning the crank with a double roller, not possible?

Well I am in the prosses of installing a pin kit for my 408 and I need to pin the crank (unfortunatly the shop I had build it did not put the keyway that I asked for). I purchased the ati kit which drills vertically into the crank, problem is I am running a double roller timming chain and it wont allow the sleeve to go on far enough on the crank snout. Will I have to remove the double roller and install the single to get this done or are there some other suggestions?

I don't remember having a problem pinning mine with the double roller timming chain. Maybe take the chain off, drill your hole, then put the chain back on?

I would find a way to horizontally key the crank. There is a reason everything from Briggs mower engines to BBC race engines are keyed that way. A vertical pin is just as much effort, but not as strong.

Only problem with that is I have an ati dampner so doing that I dont believe is an option.

All ATI dampers that I know of are keyed, so I do not see why that is not an option. To correctly key the crank, it needs to be out of the block.

You don't want to pin it like that anyway, it will break. Pin it with your ati damper installed. Drill where the ati has a slot. The pin will slide straight in, half in the crank half in the slot on the ati. Then the crank bolt holds the pin in. Best way to do it imho.

Wouldnt it be a bit tough since the keyway for the ati is square, I would think that the bit would snap or bounce around alot?

You need the kit, it holds the bit in place with a round metal piece that you use the crank bolt to secure on the crank.
