Default I need your help.

I am trying to get the some good hp numbers but still have a drivable car. I currently have a 2000 trans am with your basic bolt ons i dont drive it every day but i am wanting a set up that would be reliable enough to drive everyday if need be. i was thinking about doing a sts kit with forged internals, or just build a 402-408, i dont really want to spend over $6k and i want to atleast be able to get 15+mpg. thanks if you have a different set up in mind let me no please.

You have so many options. I sell 408's and up. Right now a 408 is a great deal. Best bang for the buck IMO. The 6.0 block only weights 75lbs more than your ls1 aluminum and your ls1 stuff will swap right over. For 3992 plus freight you could have one of my 408 short blocks. Then with your left over coin get some ported heads and your bascialy done with it. Within your 6k budget.

Or you could max out the 346 and spend about 3500-4000 on heads cam rockers pr's and stuff. Whats your power goals?

i really dont no too much about trans am and stuff i had a 700hp 04 mystic cobra but im getting into the gm thing now. as long as i had 500+ i would be ok i mean you cant get enough hp. but as long as i had 500 i would be ok for now.

That certainly can be achieved within your budget. Of course the smaller the cubes the more radical the build. You can still get a forged 347 for like 3500 I think ad then the sts but by the time your done your over your budget.

You can do 500+ in my 408 with decent heads, they dont have to be great heads but bad heads certainly wont help. The power is made in the cam and heads. Even with FI the better the head the more more it will make.

But if your going to go FI then you need to know that before you build the short block.
Big power is a process.

Most certainly. The bigger cubes will move the car easier and if you dont keep your foot into the gas your mileage should be decent as long as you dont over cam it. Lets face it performance takes HP and HP takes gas so no one can guarantee your mileage. Everyone drives different. Also the bigger the cubes the less work the engine has to do so the reliability factor is better than smaller cubes running on the ragged edge. They dont make the ls1 block anymore so its actualy more money than a 6.0 iron block. When all is said and done the cost savings is minimal and your losing out to a bigger engine for about $350 more money. A 347 for $3500 or a 408 for $3990.. the 408 will beat the 347 any day of the week and be more reliable at 500rwhp.
