Default Thinking of moving up to a bigger cam

I have been thinking about getting a bigger cam then the 228r that i am currently running in my car. Any ideas on what cam wouold match well with the 5.3 heads and what cam would make a considerable amount of power more then the cam i am currently running

how does the 228r cam work for you i'd possibly be interested in buying it at the right price. i have a torquer v2 right now but i was looking for something that had more under the curve power

I think you'd get closer to your goal of 11.5's if you got a bigger stall. Is your car full weight? If so, I think if you did a little weight reduction, along with adding a bigger stall you would definitely hit 11.5's or better! I don't think you'll gain that much power over the cam that you already are running with those heads by changing to another cam...maybe a little bit, but not enough power to take you from 11.8s to 11.5s.

Think about it like this...if you get a cam considerably bigger than the one you have have now, you will haveto get a bigger stall and flycutt
anyway. Just get a bigger stall and then see how the car runs I you still don't like it, get aother cam...atleast you'll already have your stall :-)

If you get that 4000stall i can almost guarantee you will hit your goal of 11.5's or better!!! Have you done any suspension work?

I have the 228 R on a 114 which I was going to pull out for the TV2 cam I had in hand. I ended up selling the TV2 and buying the FAST 90/90 set up. The set up cost me about $1300.00 new and was ported and polished. You may be able to get it cheaper now.

I went with the FAST 90/90 instead of the larger cam because I got the extra 20 RWHP, and it cost me nothing in low end, drivibilty, or valvetrain worries.

I installed the manifold myself which was easier than a cam install

Food for thought

I went from a 224/224 on a 112 to the Speed Inc SI5 (231/237 112), I picked up about 20 rwhp. I added a Vig 3600 this season & saw more gains than the cam swap. The car made 420/388, best pass so far is 11.39 @ 118.
