Default How hard to install thermostat?

I just picked up a 98 z28, the previous owner ran without a thermostat. I'm getting it tuned tomorrow and would like to put in a 180* t-stat. just curious as to how difficult it is to replace it in these ls1's?

It's not hard. Just drain the radiator, unbolt the housing, swap stats, and reverse of removal.

went by orielly, they only had a 190, advance only had 186, i guess 186 is close enough to 180 to deal with. they even said the 186 was OEM. i figured it was up around 200

No worries man its just random with the cam and the stock tune and coincidental it came on at that time. That is as long as you didn't crank the car with any of the other sensors unplugged. Then yes that would instantly throw a code.

Oh and im not following your threads really I'm just all over these boards all the time and keep catching your posts...lol. I swear I'm not a stalker but I miss my car and like to keep up with her...

well its installed, not as hard as i thought it would be. is it normal for the temp gage to show 210 even though the thermostat is supposed to open at 186? is that just the fan on temp?

99up fbods got the "fake" water temp gauges. They display a dead on 210 degree at all times the car is warmed up and only change when the temp hits a specified degree. Basically they can be 20-30 degrees off the actual temp...
