Cracked block?? Yes or no
Do you think this is a crack or a casting mark??
If it is a crack is there any fluid behind it??
It is the driver side of a 2002 LS6 block.
Thanks
You can barely see it in this pic but it is right on the hump below the head bolt

junk, i would never trust a cast piece that had cracked. alum is even worse. you have to remember that the block is always heating and cooling so there is a good chance it will spread. and the welding part, it is very hard to weld cast pieces and if you do find a shop to do it i can almost guarantee that they will say "we will try our best". i would not trust it but that is just me.

Welding aluminum cast or not is nothing like welding cast iron. It would be junk if it were cast iron. It's aluminum, I'd get it welded and move along never thinking about it again. It will be as good as new.
Ever seen a set of cast aluminum big block heads welded up so they could be ported bigger, same thing, except way more welding, way more expensive, way more of a risk, thats one huge advantage of aluminum engine parts--they can be sucessfully welded.
