Default Fuel cut at 120mph???

so tonight i was out dicking around with one of my friends and when i got the car to like 125 it started jerking almost like a fuel cut. after this i went out and did it again and the same thing happened... right at the same speed and rpm. to me its feeling like a fuel cut but it doesnt make sence, this is my first ls1 but i always assumed it could go faster? any tips or suggestions would be great. also even though this is happening the car pulls hard as hell but as soon as it gets to there it starts lurching.

A scan tool should tell you what's going on...

sounds like a speed limiter, I assume your car didn't have Z rated tires from the factory.

if you want to pm me the vin, i'll check out the stock tune for your vehicle and verify. Normally it is around 118 or so when the speed limiter kicks in.

Or you can go to calid.gm.com and enter the vin, and post the 8 different "part numbers" for the 8 segments, and it can be verified that way, if you don't want to pm a vin.

as far i know no one tuned my car, but i was talking to someone and they also said that the limiter was at 120 and that i need a chip that will take it away.. he also said that like an ebay chip would suffice but i dont want to get ripped off.

so i figured out that it is a fuel cut so if anyone knows a mod or something that i can do to get rid of this that would be great, or a cheapo chip that would get rid of it, doesnt have to be anything fancy... just want to go fast.

the ebay chips won't fix it, any pcm tuning software will.

The SS/WS6 cars all got Z rated tires, and will have a 160 speed limiter, non SS/WS6/Hawk cars, had tires with options, and axle ratios, so the speed limiters vary by application. with some getting 118 and others getting 160

first of all your car doesn't have a "chip" that can be swapped and programmed.

get someone with hPTuners or EFI LIVE to tune your car, trust me it will be worth it.

From my knowledge, some early Z28's where the only LS1 to have speed limiters in the 120mph region due to not coming with Z rated tires. I have never seen or heard of a TA having it, maybe a Formula. My friend's 1999 Z28 had a speed limiter on it and could only get 120ish out of it when he still had it. Just get it tuned out, I would wait until you get headers first to save 2 trips though if your planning on getting them..

You could do that, but when you eventually do the rest of your exhaust, your going to get it tuned anyway. Why spend the extra money when you don't have too. It sucks but yes that would work.

If the original order of the car had the cheap tires on it the speed limiter cuts in at 118 MPH..thats a fact Jack ..

It can be edited out along with some other unneeded stuff.

You could always send your pcm to a sponsor and get it flashed to remove the limiter 50$ tops

factory limiter kicks in around 159 or 160mph. we got to run our cars top speed on the dyno we went to, just to see how fast they would go. the speed limiter kept kicking in at 160mph

some older cars the limit was 120.
