Default quick speedometer/VSS question

I did a bunch of searching on here about hooking up my Autometer Speedometer 4489, to my 700R4. According to what I have read so far, I need to connect the VSS output from the trans to the SIG spot on the back of the speedo, and the VSS signal from the PCM to the OUT spot on the back on the speedo. Let me know if this is correct.

Also, which wire is the VSS output on the trans? The green wire or the purple wire?

I would think that the VSS sensor output goes straight to the PCM Pin 21/Red.. PCM would then feed the Speedo.. I could be wrong. Have you called or used Autometers web site for FAQ or chat ?

Opps! I dont know why i didnt post this earlier. doh!

in order for the speedo to work correctly, what you need to do is NOT cut the wire at either side, you need to tap into it, and send the other end to the autometer gauge.

That is how I do it when i mod peoples harnesses. I've never received a complaint/problem yet.

Hope this helps.

the PCM needs to read the VSS signal, the PCM sends information only to the OBDII port. He just needs to tap into the Purple/White Pin 21/Red Connector wire.

See, thats what I have read also. Some people ran into problems this way, seems like there are a couple different ways to do it.

The way I want to do it, it seems like it will eliminate the possibility of the PCM throwing any VSS codes, plus the PCM will still be getting the output out of speedo.

My Autometer is hooked into the VSS output signal from the pcm and works perfect. Hook your speedo into C2 pin 50 and it will work correctly.

bringing up the dead looking for some help.
I have a procomp 5" electric speedo from A/M
I currently have the drk grn/wht wire from PIN 50 on the RED connector going to the SIG pin on the back of my gauge. I have power as my lights light up but no reading on the odometer and no movement on the needle. I have CUT the grn/wht wire and soldered it to the wire for the guage. Should this have just been tapped into the wire and not cut?
I have scanned my car with autotap and had HPtuners on it and the port i've installed under the dash does read the car's speed. if that helps at all

Please let me know what I've done wrong as I would like to have this all set up ASAP.

You are hooked to the correct wire as long as you hooked to it "coming from" the pcm. I have heard stories of some speedometers not wanting to work off of the VSS signal from the pcm. Is the speedo new?

Yes the speedo is new and i have the VSS output so the signal is coming from the PCM to the guage. No dice.
arg. I'm going to double/triple check the connections I guess
