2002 Trans ams (MPG) GAS Mileage comparison?
2002 Trans ams (MPG) GAS Mileage comparison?
Is there a difference between the regular Trans Ams, the WS6, and the FIREHAWK?
Or are they all the same? 18 and 26?
I saw somewhere that the better engines with the Ram Air actually gained a couple more MPGs.
Do the 6 speeds really get that much more than the automatics?
And do you use PREMIUM all the time, or PLUS or even REGULAR gas sometimes?

They are all pretty much the same for the EPA ratings.
18city / 26hwy - Manual
17city / 25hwy - Automatic
And always, I mean ALWAYS use 91+ octane...you wouldnt want engine knock or piston slap.

EPA ratings are a ball park figure.
My Window sticker says 17/26
But I've gotten a best of 22mpg in the city on my M6 driving like a Granny.
And I've never seen less then 29mpg on the highway (best of 32mpg).

The sticker on mine said 18/26 for an A4 - I got about 28/29 highway before any mods. How you drive matters most, a heavy foot will drive down the mileage.

The worst I've ever gotten in my 2000 TA M6 is 16 mpg in town. That's driving the crap out of it. I typically average around 20 in town and 27-28 mpg on the highway (running the AC, and cruising about 70-75 mph).
By comparison, my 99 Grand Am V6 automatic would average about 20 in town and 28-30 on the highway. Ooh, big difference.
And yes, I run only Premium. Really, it's only about $0.25/gal more. If Regular is $4.00 and Premium $4.25, a 15 gallon fillup will cost you $60.00 for Regular or $63.75 for Premium. $3.75 isn't worth it to run Regular, IMO.

How about Plus?
I would never use regular, unless it was mixed with Premium or Jet Fuel.
However, Here is an articale on it

My '02 V6 A4 'Bird get around 27mpg per tank combined city and highway driving (hwy at 80 mph). I haven't been driving my 00 WS6, so I couldn't give a comparison from that. Will removing the rain baffles give a WS6 better fuel economy??
This...:
...didn't help me get better fuel economy on this day.
But damn it was fun!!

Now if you want to run Plus, you can save $1 or $2 per tank at the cost of reduced mileage and performance.
Ask yourself if an extra $2 per tank of gas is going to make that big of a difference in your budget.

My WS.6
I have a 2000 WS.6 M6. I get between 18-22mpg on average for city. Highway I get between 27-30mpg. Seems like I get the same mpg as other non-WS.6 cars. And I would only run 91 or higher. When I first bought my car last month I floored it non stop and got 11mpg! But if I take it easy it gets great mpg!

So I drove it like a crazed psychopath most of the time. Thank God gas was under a buck a gallon back then.

well, when I drive highway, i only drive highway since i dont commute to work since im 19 and i always get a little over 30. thats a 6 speed regular 98 T/A with lid and slp lm1 exhaust going about 77mph. i usually get about 20 in the city, well i would if i weren't hard on the gas since have the time im driving for fun. thats on exxon premium. with my old car i'd get worse mpg with lower octane or cheaper gas like wawa and this is better for the engine so you get what you pay for. i prefer less water in my gasoline.
many people with the m6 report 30ish. the auto is much worse, especially if you get a stall.

mods in sig. i get an avg of 19 and that is COMBINED. of course we know only city it shoudl get about 18-20, and highway should get about 25-30. but in real world, you will be mixing the 2. If you have a 6 spd, dont worry, you will pay about as much as any other car made in 2002 to fill up

The 6 speed cars will get better gas milage, the auto cars with the 2.73 gears usually get arround 29 on the highway, the best ive got in my auto with 3.23 gears was 24 when it was stock.
And i doubt ram air will make a noticable difference in gas milage.
