What would it take?

I had a 94 Camaro Z28 and i had hooker shorties, k&n air intake system, power programmer,160 thermostat, centerforce dual friction clutch, fidanza flywheel, and m/t et streets and i was running 8.1 seconds at kennedale. It's a 1/8th mile track but the stock ls1's were surprised with my timeslip. I pulled hard on them from take off and had them down the track about 2 cars. Your reaction time and being able to hook up is your best friend. The LS1's have good top end and they begin to pull next to you very quick but if you can hook up and get that good take off then you should have no problems. The 100 Shot of laughing gas will help a lot on your top end.

I agree, with your mods you should be just about set to beat most any stock ls1...unless he had major driver mod. If the ls1 is modified...you could do some work on the throttle body, get a cam and port the heads and you would be back on top!

i would definitely consider the B&M over the pro 5.0 i like the way the b&m slides into each gear and the stick is shorter which in my opinion is better, but really its personal preference when it comes to shifters
