No rear main seal issue here, but my damn oil pan gasket is leaking, and this is after the dealershit tried to use rtv to put a bandaid on a bullet wound. Different dealershit next time. Would do it myself...but why? Warranty...sounds like a job for somebody else.

Condition
Some customers may comment on an engine oil leak.
Cause
Upon initial diagnosis, it may be determined that the leak is coming from the rear cover gasket. This condition may be caused by engine block porosity on the sealing surface. This issue pertains to aluminum block applications only.
Correction
Follow the steps for Oil Leak Diagnosis in SI to determine the source of the leak. If the leak has been diagnosed as coming from the engine rear cover assembly, refer to Engine Rear Cover Replacement in SI and remove the engine rear cover assembly. Inspect for engine block porosity where the engine rear cover mates to the engine block. If porosity is found anywhere on the sealing surface, use the following procedure to apply RTV to repair the engine block porosity. Refer to the illustration below.
Clean any residual oil from the block and cover before applying the sealant in the next step.
Wipe a small amount of RTV, P/N 12378521 (in Canada, use P/N 88901148), onto the surface using a plastic scraper to fill the porosity.
Remove any excess RTV material, especially from inside the high pressure oil passage. Refer to # 1 in the above illustration. The joint may be closed immediately after applying the RTV. Total joint time after the RTV has been applied must be under 20 minutes.
Refer to Engine Rear Cover Replacement in SI and follow the tightening specifications and sequence.
Reinstall the engine rear cover using a new gasket and a new crankshaft rear main seal. Refer to Engine Rear Cover Replacement in SI.

I have had Rear main seal changed once, oil pan gasket replaced once and it was still some oil drippage not much but noticable. never had to add oil. Turned out to be the valve cover on the firewall side needed to be retightened.

just an update . . . they couldnt see where the oil leak was coming from so they put a dye in the oil, have to bring it back in a few days. They are replacing the whole steering rack for the PS fluid leak . . .

have a oil leak where bellhousing meets block, run a dye in engine only and show its engine oil, pulled tranny (5spd) and bellhousing, clutch was dry,so was flywheel but considerable amount of oil in bottom of bellhousing, rear seal and cover plate seems to be okay?? this is a 05 ls2 in a 67 camaro, tremec 5spd and kiesler hydraulic clutch which runs dot4 blake fluid . the front of the 5spd shows traces of fluid and tranny was low on fluid yet the dye test shows engine oil as the culprit, any suggestions???

2005 gxp just replaced rack...they tried putting an ac rack in and it failed right away. They put a gm rack in an it now steers better that it ever has. It was leaking into the boot. i brought it in for ISS and they found the rack leaking. I had extended warranty.
