Could be a new GXP owner tomorrow, need some advice.
Going tomorrow to look at a black 07 GXP around the corner from me. Seem's like an older guy, car has 100k on it, and the guys mechanic told him the transmission was bad last year, so he paid them to have the trans replaced/rebuilt. He claims that the car wont go into drive now, it only moves in reverse, he says that the mechanic shop checked the transmission 3 times and that they claim its the TCU that is the problem. He also claimed that he drove the car in reverse for what I would presume was an extended period of time and he "overheated" the car. Right now he is asking $3000 cash for the car, would have be towed, am I potentially walking into a disaster here or is the value of the car high enough where if the engine is damaged, and the trans was not rebuilt right, that I could potentially still have a car that im not upside-down on? Thoughts and opinions are welcome on this, im new to LS4's.

i would stay away from it being that they said it overheated you dont know what damage that did to the motor if any just figure if the motor and tranny need to be replaced your lookin at probably 1500-2000 on the motor and probably another 2000 for the tranny rebuild with a few lil mods u could be easily over 10 grand with the price of the car included

Guy wound up giving it away for $1000 bucks, couldn't pass it up. His service receipts show that he had a "Complete transmission overhaul" for 2348.65 on 3/6/2014, and from what I can tell, they never replaced the converter, and thats the reason why the car wont move. Sounds like a box of marbles coming from the bell housing. When its cold it can move very slowly in reverse and drive but soon as it gets hot, thats it.
He also had another 3300 bucks in additional repairs done over the past few years, hubs, pulleys, idlers, and I happen to find this under the hood.
So down to the electrical gremlins, nothing on the engine computer as far as codes, and the motor purs like a kitten, I was sketchy about how he described the overheating but seems like it was just backflow from an overfilled coolant resovoir. Nothing about the engine seemed sketch at all. ABS computer pulled up C0550, C0896, C0898 and it has stability control, traction control and ABS all disabled on the DIC. The codes are indicating a checksum/write error and the 800 codes seem to be indicating some sort of low voltage to module code. Given the discrepancy of the harness up front, I am not surprised, now I just have to narrow down the problem. It would seem that the shade tree mechanics replaced the entire fuse block in an attempt to repair the problem, according to the owner.

Ordered a new precision of new hampton converter today from triple edge performance, and a set of LS6 valve springs from jegs. Finally settling on what I'm gonna do while the engine is out.
Scoggin Dickey DoD Delete Kit w/ LS7 lifters and LS3 valley cover
LS6 Valve Springs (blue)
LS2 12574519 Camshaft
OBX Headers
Cold Air Inductions intake system
timing chain/waterpump/gaskets/transflush etc
Also isolated the DTC's to the EBCM (brake control module) which apparently is a common problem. Going to be attempting to pull the control module tomorrow and have it sent off for repair. Other then that its just cosmetic clean up and a new set of front tires.

Someone who has done this before will probably chime in, although the posts I have seen it looks more like it is removed from the bottom with the cradle out. Not sure if there is other ways, people in the know are pretty creative. I would ask some questions before starting that way.

Poured some water into the engine today, and noticed it was running right out of the bottom lol looks like either a hole in the radiator or a blown hose, but the hoses appear to be new as of 2013 according to the receipts. Just another thing added to the list.

finally got a chance to detail it a bit yesterday, paint is gonna need some love thats for sure, very dull from consistent automatic car wash abuse for the past 8 years. I took the picture while it was still wet just to make it look better lol nothing the porter cable cant handle. Interior was filthy, guy must have been a black and milds smoker, had that thick residue and nasty ashy dust all over everything, not to mention that smell. Gonna take the steam cleaner to everything sometime this month and start shampooing the carpets to get the funk out, also have to take lexol to the leather and throw on some leather moisturizing.
In the meantime, new converter arrived from TEP, and so did the LS6 valve springs. Which shall compliment the vinci ultra torque cam nicely.
