You can hurt alot of things running it lean...the trap door method of replacing the fuel pump isnt too complicated and worth the peace of mind. Just did one yesterday actually
Outside of that, all the stock lines, etc will be fine.

Depends on the 396, you could conceivably put one together that would be fine on the stock fuel system. The fact all you mentioned was displacement raises a flag to me and makes me wonder if you draw a direct connection between size and power???
Displacement is not really even a consideration in fuel system selection, airflow is, and displacement does not dictate airflow.
If the engine works well you will need a Racetronix kit with Walbro pump and wiring upgrade and new injectors, the lines and regulator are just fine.

Stock pump should be good for approx. 400rwhp,
Racetronix single kit w/ hotwire should be good for a little over 550rwhp.
I make a double pump kit with Racetronix components that will support over 1000rwhp.
Stock lines should support around 700rwhp.
If you are in need of a system, please give me a call, I stock the Racetronix kits, Double pump kits & also custom line kits

lol i wish i knew how much power i am making! i have been trying to get this damn car tuned for the longest....the first time i got it on the dyno my water pump took a ****. the second time it was my fuel pump and injectors. third time fuel pressure regulator. 4th time the regulator i bought was a pos accel, sent it back for an aeromotive. waiting for that to come in. i think it made 320 or 330 running really lean. so to the op, u might as well do the whole fuel system right now!
