Default borla exhaust problems...

so i bought a borla exhaust system off of a 94 LT1 camaro for my 96 trans am. i took it up to the exhaust shop today and had them weld it up for me. well 2 hours later, i get a phone call from them and they begin to tell me it wont fit and they cant even fab something together to make it fit. im like wtf. i assume there cant be that many differences between the 94 and the 96 borla system? then the guy was like we got a flow-pro system we can weld on there and put the borla tips on that so it looks cool! i dont want some knockoff brand muffler on my car. i paid good money to get that borla. and it gets even better...

after explaining the whole exhaust fiasco, he tells me that somebody backed into the rear quarter panel of my car while it was sitting in the parking lot! they said that they had already contacted a body shop and are willing to pay for it. so thats good. but now i have to deal with that, on top of finding a different place to put my exhaust on!! what a great ******* day. /rant

so tell me, is this place just trying to sell me their muffler and make some extra cash? or does it really not fit??

The only possible thing that I can think of that could be different is the location of where the pipes sit in the back. They should be able to fab up whatever you need.
That shops sounds very shady. They won't do what you wand and they fucked up your car to boot. Don't let their freind at a hole in the wall paint shop down the street do a mickey mouse job on your body repair either. Take pictures, take your car to 3 reputable body shops and get estimates and give them to the exhaust shop.

find a new shop. its not that hard to make it work. all they would have had to do was cut the pipes some

well i went back up there with a estimate of the damage ($608) and they said that they would contact the insurance company and have it taken care of. they were telling me that theres really no way to make that exhaust setup work on my car. and thought that maybe it came off of a v6 or something. i know for a FACT that it didnt come off of a v6. im just really fed up with that place. im going to call a difference shop once i get my car back from having that dent fixed. unbelieveable.

95-97 cars are twin cat.
93-94 are single cat cars.
the 93-94 has an s-pipe that connects to the cat, i think the 95+ is just straight.

i bought a corsa from a guy that was from a 96/7 twin cat car.
i just cut the s-pipe where i needed and welded the corsa right to it. no big deal..

upper left corner is the s pipe for the 93-94 cars

95+ exhaust..

hope that helped some.

the other difference is the passenger side tail pipe. I bought mine off a 2000 camaro and it does not fir up on my 93 trans am. I also have a ORY so it is not due to the s-pipe. It is the actual fitment of the passenger tail pipe.

I am currently putting on a borla exhaust on my 96 T/A its off of a 95 z28, As bowtie shows in the pic is the extra s pipe, What confuses is me is wouldnt you just not use the S pipe? yesterday I bolted everything up and I was about a foot short from where my pipe from my cat connects to the start of the borla exhaust, everything else is the same. All i did was cut a 12 inch pipe and am about to put it on in half hour. In the Pic you have the L pipe that goes over the axle and the pipe right to the left of it goes from the L pipe to your pipe from the cat. Sorry bout your luck also!

Oh and bowtie, i think they started putting twin cats on 96 and up.

yes the ls style is a little different. the ls style has the flange separate from the tip unlike the one piece of the lt. Also the ls style comes with the 12" piece that connects the I-pipe to the ORY.

I don't see how any of the differences couldn't be fabbed up to work on any F-body car at a compitent exhaust shop...

yeah, no question about that. now i just gotta wait a couple days to get my car back before i can take it to the shop again. i just dont understand why they couldnt simply fab something up for me.. oh well. never going back there again. the funny thing is that when we were talking about it he was telling me about the flow-pro mufflers they have, and hes like "we can weld one of those up there and it'll sound 5 times better then that borla". i was like riiight

i have the borla setup for a dual cat 96/97 car. i bought it many years ago. the spipe is not the same as the pic above. the pipe is about a foot long, may be a little longer. when i put my lpp y pipe on, the ypipe fit into the foot long section and then the rest of the exhaust looks the same.
