Default Underdrive damper?

I'm looking at getting rid of my underdrive setup that is on there now, the ugly piggybacked mess! So my question is are there any underdriver dampers then?

Looking at Summit I see there are five ATI options listed for LT1's, now if that isn't confusing I don't know what is. Is it worth getting their crank hub, or just get the damper? Is the factory diameter 7.5 so the 6.78 would be underdriven?

I see the ASP one, is that supposed to be run one piece then, it doesn't piggyback? Any issues with it?

Should I go with an ATI, or will an ASP satisfy my needs? It is currently and probably will stay a hotcam motor, so not sure if I really need an ATI?

HELP!

For those who say about charging, well I've had the underdrive pulley on the car for years, without changing out the alternator pulley. I've never had a charging problem.

You are going to want their hub for an ATI damper, they are a really tight fit and the ATI damper has an offset torx head screw hole that is going to require their hub.

I've been running the ASP 23% underdrive dampner/pulley combo since 1996 with no issues...I can't say its added any power, but its there and has never had any probs...

Good to know you would want their hub also, you would think they would recommend that in the product description or something.

Thanks for the input. I know you race your car all the time Alan, I suppose that should be enough testament to the ASP.

I was really trying to figure out if the ATI was worth the $200+ premium over the ASP for the purpose I wanted to use it for, looks like I'll probably go with the ASP then.

Right now I have I have no idea, maybe the BBK with the stock damper on the front of it, looks hideous.

Parts ordering will commence in a few hours probably. I suppose if there is no huge negative against the ASP that will be the route I take.

ASP it is, I kinda figured I had no real world reason to pick up an ATI.

I just got a 10% under balancer from jegs. I wanted the SFI rating, it was 229 including the steel hub. Looks to be a nice piece, haven't put it on though.

Im running the ATI on mine.....I did it just to drop the belt speed I kept frying alternators once a month lol........I'm running the aluminum balancer and hub its amazing the whole setup weighs in just around 5lbs......for spinning weight thats HUGEE!!!! every little bit helps......the ATI is a bit pricy but I'd highly reccomend it......its a perfectly machined and engineered piece and the removable balancer from the hub is nice........also its SFI approved.....my vote is with ATI!!

Thanks guys, but I already went with the ASP. I'll keep the ATI in mind if I ever do some full out build.

Going to be doing the 24x conversion, so I'm already cringing at my bank account.

I have it and love it. Real nice piece and I also bought their hub as well because it has the key way. Really nice parts and easy to work with ended up with a belt from some kind of audi.

Yeah I know, I ran a similar setup on the first motor also. Believe me this is another, "If only I had found LS1tech sooner....." situation, I would have gotten the ASP or ATI years ago.

Not much since our water pumps aren't belt driven. I got mine to slow down the power steering pump on the track.
