Default which main, rod and cam bearings

Okay guys im going to have all the bearings changed out on my 383 shortblock along with new pistons installed.

I bought the shortblock used from a member on here and he said when he had the block done all the bearing clearances stayed the same as stock.

So my question is what are the best bearings to use?
what are you guys running?

i was thinking of going with clevite bearings but theres all kinds of options. p series, h series, v series and im kind of lost.

any help will be very appreciated

A local engine builder thats going to do my motor said that unless I'm going FI/nitrous, coated bearings arent worth the cost. They recommend H series bearings.

You could use the clevite H series. They are harder and take nitrous better, although they are really not meant for street use.If the crank has radiused fillets then you will have to use the H series,Im not sure but I dont think they make the P series in a narrow width.King makes a nice bearing also and the trw/federal mogul/speed pros are good too.The V series are the vandervell line, very expensive and not worth the extra $ although they are a really nice compromise between the H and P. As for cam bearings there is only one choice: Durabond are simply the best. Make sure whatever you get has the correct clearance, there are plus and minus sizes.Make sure to do a quick/light hone for the new rings to seat. Why new pistons? If they do not have any abnormal wear or alot of miles on them and they are forged I would re- use them.Probably want to polish the crank also.

Also make sure to use a ductile iron top ring.Total seal or speed pro on those.and gapped for the spray

Hopefully the pistons are forged,if not you will have to re-balance it

Please excuse my ignorance but what is a chamfered bearing?
And what about the dowl pin hole?

the block has Eagle I beam forged rods
and an Eagle forged crank (383)

also the current pistons that are in the block now are not forged and thats the reason for changing them out. I know i will have to have it rebalanced.

I talked with a shop and they told me they will hone the block install the new pistons and all the bearings and polish the crank for 500.00 but i have to supply all the parts. So thats the reason i need to know Exactly what i need to buy.

thanks again guys

Also will i need the rings gapped for the nitrous even if im not going to spray very often?

because i know you can spray 100 shot on a completely stock motor.

will it hurt the motor if i have the rings gapped for nitrous but im running on motor 95% of the time?

and one more thing if i take the block to the shop will they be able to tell me all the right sized bearings i will need?

Clevite v bearings in my motor. My engine builder said they are the best. Even though there a little more money, not much more then h bearings. But said i should not have another problemwith them.
