Lawhead's 355 Build
Well the 355 is the way I'm going to go
This build will be taking quite a bit of time
but the build as of now this is the plan
355 forged pistons Forged rods and pistons speed pro 11:1 compression
Balanced with stock crank
CC306 type cam 234/244 .579/.575 110 LSA
Local machine shop ported heads LE2 Package
3600 Yank SS stall Yanks 4000 SS stall
Thinner head gaskets up compression a bit
and a 150 shot of the Laughing gas.
I figure with this set up it will be good for 11's on motor and 10's on the gas
Just thought to my self all the work I would have to do to the block I have now I can get a 355 put together from the machine shop for 1k so the extra money to have my parted forged and such would be worth it.
But that sound good for now?
Changes in red so far probably have a lot more before its done but its now updated
Be looking forward to input from everyone
Figured I might as well do it all If I'm going to wait I have another car that I can use to get to work.

I dont mean to sound liek the others on here and bash you for not goign with LE or AI but be very careful with no name ported heads there are alot of good potrers out there that arent big names but there are alos alot that can fubar heads. Seems most local "porters" to me think a port job means making the runners bigger and smoothing them out, and not actually addressng the places that need work.
Do your research and you should be fine though.
What pistons you using?

My machinist has all that into piston wise but trust me this guy knows his stuff he's built just about everything plus he has talked to Llyod personally before so there could have been some info traded between the two.
If I can get up there on Wednesday I will just with the new job I've been pretty busy

sounds like a nice build good luck. i can't wait to get mine in and running. I was going to go ls and even have a 6.0 sitting here but also have a bad *** LT1 here too. (383, srp, eagle, eagle, arp, afr, 13:1) going to be running the E85 in my 70 nova.

it is not really fair though i got mine for a stupid price....... I bought a take out LS1 4l60 combo for 1200 with pcm and everything traded that to my dad for this 383 LT1 that came in a car he bought. he didn't want to deal with race gas or E85 so i win just have to put the LS1 in his car for him
biggest problem is the 2 bolt block

355 forged pistons What type?
Balanced with stock crank
CC306 type cam Before anything else you are going to have to find out what stall, gear, and cam you are going to run. There are better options than a 306. If you trying to save some money alright, but do some research on it.
Local machine shop ported heads Please tell me this shop has at least a flow bench. If your build is going to take awhile, then save up some money and get a used set of aftermarket heads
3600 Yank SS stall
Thinner head gaskets up compression a bitThe impy gaskets are .028 that will get you about a 1/3 of a point.
I figure with this set up it will be good for 11's on motor and 10's on the gas I could be wrong, but it will take a lot of work to get into the 10's

Keep the detonation in check and you won't have an issue.

LPM is what it is he has built a bunch of everything from 9 second 5000 pound SUV's to 383 LT1's in Impalas that run 11's this guy knows his ****.
And Gregbob you say that because of that cam you love so much huh
But like i said the build isn't set in stone this will really be my first build other then putting together a 2.2 to go into my S-10
I really want something to rip up the roads I have all the bolt on's minus the stall so all thats good. I drive 7 miles to work everyday so gas isn't a huge issue then I will take it out to the track and take it out when its a nice day and just cruise around the beach side
