1994 b4c
Ive got a 1994 b4c camaro with 104000 miles on it. The motor is knocking, so I need to come up with a replacement while I rebuild this puppy the right way. I have found a couple low mileage replacements but I need to know what year engines will be a direct drop in and go. I just bought this car and am going to take the computer and everything out with the engine and drop new computer and engine in for the time being. The engine only runs for a minute or two if you spray some ether in and knocks like hell, then dies so I think there may be more wrong with it and that is why I am swapping everything out.
Thanks

I would just get a good running long block from any year, shouldn't matter. Then just take the rest off your motor and put it back in, including intake, wiring harness, pcm, sensors, etc. Then you can build your bottom end and heads and still have the car running without any modifications.
I'm really not sure if you can drop in a 96obdII pcm into a 94. I'm sure you can with some modifications (wiring/sensors), which would probably be minor. Some knock sensors aren't interchangable, I'm sure someone will chime in with the exact years, etc. The opti is different and the opti harness is different from 94 to later model. And the timing cover.
I would agree with shbox, ideally you want a 94 or 95. I might even say 95 would be #1 because of the updated opti.

Thanks guys thats the kinda info Im needing at this point in my resto.
I have also found a 1995 motor out of a z28 with 30000 on it with computer and harness but it was for an auto. What would the problems be on that setup and my 1994 manual car.

95 > 94 all you have to worry about is the pigtail that connects the distributor to the main harness. This connector goes from next to the pass. side of the intake under the EVAP purge solenoid to the distributor housing. And since you'd be going from spline drive to pin drive distributor, you'd need to find a vacuum venting harness to put on it if it didn't come with it. And you'd need to poke a hole in the intake elbow for the fresh air input for the vacuum harness.

Thanks guys
I have found a 30000 mile motor for 900 off a 1995 z28 that im gonna drop in the 1994 b4c I just bought. If all I have to do is rig a vacuum harness or buy one I will be good to go.
