Default Pump the gas

Hey guys, lately my car is not starting right up when u turn the key. The engine spins over maybe 4-5 times before it catches or i have to step down onthe gas to flame it off at a higher rpm 1500 to 2000, if the car sits a couple days i spin it over forever trying to start it and it would not start till i pumped it alot. I hope this all makes sense to u guys. Would a weak fuel pump do this, or maybe the regulator? It just seems like lately it is taking more spins and pedal to start it. Thanks.

Only way to know is get a gauge and check the pressure and then start checking other stuff.

True...but no maf on 93. I was just curious, because in the morning it fires right away(i just replaced the IAC) and i thought with the fuel pressure in the system when u turn the key it would fire right away after it is warm. I will check the pressure cold and warm. Thanks

Sounds like a bad regulator, I just went through something like this for about 9 months. First start of the day, fired right off. Rest of the day I'd have to go 50%+ throttle for the car to fire off, cranking for 3+ seconds. It eventually went from leaky bad regulator to burst regulator and I flooded the motor on start up. Had a quart of gasoline in the oil when I drained it.

Maybe the age is catching up to some of these regulators.

Update...went to start car after 2 days of sitting nothing no fire. Checked pressure 8 psi. I turned key off then on 42 psi at prime and dropped to 36 and held, the car started. It held 36, when u stab it i goes to 42 then back down. I checked regulator...the black box on the side of intake, it's a 93 it may be different, so the two vacuum lines coming out of it the top one had full vacumm and there was no change to pressure. The second had no noticable vacuum and it also had no change, the also is no fuel in either one. How is it suppose to change when u pull the hose? This is a stock repacement from GM and is almost three years old ( maybe 30 35 thousand miles). I still have the stock pump with a 150k on it. Any suggestions to try before i switch pumps? Thanks guys!!!

Even if there's no fuel in the vacuum line it could still be bad, especially if you had 8 psi on the first crank. They're cheaper than a fuel pump and if it doesn't fix it you can return it.

Quick question, the fuel pump is priming right?

Did you take the line off the actual regulator? Not the black box, that is for the evap system. I'm a little confused I guess, have you replaced the regulator that is attached to the fuel rail before then?

I can hear it priming, by the guage it first had 8 psi no start then i turned key off and on had 42 at first then heard a click and it dropped to 36, is it suppose to do that? If the black box is not the reg where is it? I always thought it was that box about half way down intake on left side? The reg has not been repaced, but pump has.

The regulator is the round silver thing on the very back of the intake manifold and has a single vacuum line coming off of it, NOT to be confused with the EGR valve.

About 40-45 is healthy stock but make sure to hook it up for a few minutes and see if the pressure drops.

Question: the regulator wouldn't play any part in the pressure until the car is running correct? A fer months ago i would be driving and the car would die, so i would wait a few min. And it would fire right up, so i replaced the relay under kick panel. Have not had a problem for awhile. I am going to switch out back to origanal 150k pump today and see, then get a walbro 255. Where is the best price on them? Thanks for the help.

So did you take the vacuum line off the regulator and turn the key to on? This way you can check if the regulator is leaking or not. Even when cranking fuel is there and if it is leaking then the fuel gets sucked down the vacuum line and can cause you to have to pump the gas pedal. Just want to rule this out.

Just checked a few things, my pressure regulator is toward the left back side of intake (93). There is no fuel in the vacuum line, none! There was 40 psi at start up, there seems to be very low psi if i let the car sit for 2 or more days. I started the car it primed at 40 then dropped to 36...i pulled hose off of reg no fuel in hose and pressure went to 46. On 36, off 46. Any thoughts?

Sounds like your Fuel pressure is good but I would check it during startup and idle to be sure. Are there any codes?

No codes just scanned. If i start the car every day no problem, if i let it sit 2 or more then its really hard to start. it may just be a pump. Gonna have to switch out, if i have the same prob then i know it is something more thanks for the suggestions.
