Why are they calling it a Z28? If that's a real SLP SS they have no idea what they have.

Gotta remember SLP got the Z28 from GM and "modified" them into the SS. The vin will come back as a Z28. I don't believe it was until later that that they noted that it was sent to SLP for the transformation....

The 96's were named as Z28/SS just like in the badge in the picture then in 97 they dropped the Z28 and called them just Camaro SS...There are SLP door stickers in the drivers side that should what alterations the car came with...

All SS's came off the line as Z28's...SLP only did the first 3 years then GM made the changes at the plant.

I wonder who has been hiding that all of these years. I bet that is pretty rare car as well with that color and an auto.

Not so sure about the auto part, but the color is for sure rare since it was the least chosen. I can't understand why.

So 2900 miles and the interior "leather" still looks like ****. GM messed that up.

Has GM ever been known for quality interiors, especially in a ~$20K car?

thats a good find...I know you didn't actually pay $19,999.99. What did you take it for, if you don't mind me asking?

Auto convertibles are not rare. They are the rule, not the exception.

[edit] The only reason they could be considered "rare" because there aren't that many convertibles. The vast majority of convertibles f-bodies are automatics.

There are more automatics than manuals. Lets just say if my car was a 96 instead of a 94 black SS manual convertible there would be less than 100 of them ever made.

I am talking SS models here...I could care less about other models for the purpose of this discussion. According to the information that I have read, for SS models only, there were far more manual cars built than auto, at least in 1996. Regarding this car, from what I have read, there were a total of 10 Bright Teal Metallic convertible SS cars built in 1996, of which only 3 were auto, which makes this car the rarest 1996 SS model built.

Not true.

You are correct Mystic Teal metallic is the most rare (only 637 cars)....this is not that color however....this is a BRIGHT Teal metallic (yes, for some reason GM had two teal color options back then)....they made a hell of a lot more of that bright teal color (3,912 unfortunatley ) the other Mystic teal is cooler looking. That color screams late 80's early 90's; kinda dated....not a fan myself.

A breakdown of 96 camaro production numbers by date code:

05 Dark Purple metallic (available on std and Z/28 models only) 2,291
10 Arctic White (available on std, Rally Sport and Z/28 models) 11,219
13 Sebring Silver metallic (available on std, Rally Sport and Z/28 models) 3,871
37 Bright Teal metallic (available on std, Rally Sport and Z/28 models) 3,912
41 Black (available on std, Rally Sport and Z/28 models) 12,623
48 Polo Green metallic (available on std, Rally Sport and Z/28 models) 9,464
79 Mystic Teal metallic (available on std and Z/28 models only) 637
80 Quasar Blue metallic (available on std and Z/28 models only) 2,684
81 Bright Red (available on std, Rally Sport and Z/28 models) 13,317
96 Cayenne Red metallic (available on std and Z/28 models only) 1,294

Going back to SS models only, Bright Teal Metallic was the most rare, as according to the information that I read, they did not build a single SS model with Mystic Teal Metallic in 1996.
