Default School me on speed density tuning

I am in the middle of building the ole lt1.

93 Z28
355
LE 226/232 .576 .571 110
Stock bottom end
Stock 22lb injectors
Lts, ORY
Stock heads (milled .020)

Who can do my base tune so I can start it? I was looking at the common pcmforless and mad tuner but they dont seem to do sd.

This is my first build. I searched but it seems all the threads turned into a bitch fest of sd vs maf.

Thanks!!!

Madtuner does speed density tunes. If you look on his order sheet where MAF is, in the drop down list the 2nd to last one is Speed Density. Not sure on pcmforless but i would think they would do it as well.

Keep in mind that its still recommended to do a dyno tune as soon as you can. SD tuning is a multi-step procedure, and impossible to get right first try through a mail order.

I had a Mad Tuner tune for my H/C setup, and while it got me up and running it was rich and conservative and I picked up close to 30rwhp with a dyno tune - and more importantly, since it was a DD, I got MUCH better drivability.

I know they are a pain to tune (so I have heard).

I plan on a dyno tune for sure. I just don't want to mess something up starting it before hand.

Alvin at pcmforless in Mooresville NC tunes the SD cars. You'll probably need bigger injectors before hand.

Both places you mentioned do tune '93s. You just have to click on the 86-93 option on their sites. Ed Wright (fastchip.com) also does them and has a very good reputation.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I can just fill out the sheet of my mods etc and they send out the chip, correct? It's not like my old 99 that I send the whole computer in?

http://www.pcmforless.com/index.php?...pper&Itemid=73

Also, what should I have them set my idle at? Shift points? Rev limiter?

Thanks guys!

Correct. You install the chip yourself (takes 5 minutes).

You should discuss the idle speed and rev limiter with the tuner. The shift points are not controlled by the ECM on a 93. You will need to change governor weights and or springs to modify that. Converter lockup is the only transmission parameter controlled by the '93 ECM.

You pull the governor out, pull out the pins and swap them. Here is some good info. It is fairly easy to get the governor out with the trans still in the car.

The governor in your transmission is different from the one in the 3rd gens. I wouldn't use their RPM info. Yours is like the Corvette version. I used the springs included in the Transgo SK700 kit I bought (there was instructions on what type to use and several sets of springs included). The weights on our governors are lighter. It's easy to remove the governor though, so you can mess around with different spring weights to get the shifts tuned to your setup.

Some people buy an extra governor, install race springs, then use it exclusively at the track.

If you go and read the link you will realize the OP is referring to 93 LT1 F body transmissions. So, I wouldn't disregard the info just because it is posted on a forum called thirdgen.org. May as well disregard all the LT1 info on here because this is LS1tech if you want to do that.

Not saying he should disregard everything in the thread. The initial poster in the 3rd gen thread says he's using #5&6 to get 6000rpm shifts on a '93. Fair enough, but it's not clear that the rest of the RPM weights in the following posts are for a '93, or an earlier model.

3rd Gen.org is a fantastic site, don't get me wrong. I'm just saying he might want to do some more research before expecting the results posted in the linked thread.
