LT1 didn't pass smog what are my options??
Okay to make a long story short Ive been trying to get my 1994 z28 (LT1) to pass smog for a few months now. Ive replaced the EGR valve, o2 sensors, new wires, new spark plus, new CAT, new pacesetter headers, new water pump and opti. My NOX is off the charts 700's.
Okay I finally got tired of pouring all my money and time into this car which only has 80,000 on it so I took it Meineke and paid $118 for a smog diagnostic.
They told me the new EGR valve that I put in there was the wrong one and I also had a exhaust leak ahead of the CAT. I told them to fix it. Total price a little under $500.
After two days basically they called and said the car was ready. They claimed they did a smog test and it passed with flying colors. Once I got the car they didn't give me any type of paperwork saying the car passed with the results.
Took it to a smog shop and it didn't pass, actually not even a little better basically same results....
Took the car back and they said they will see whats going on.
My question is will I have to come out of pocket with anymore money? They told me what was wrong, I paid for it, and it still didn't pass. I feel I should not have to pay one more dime. I spent my budget on this car with what the price was they quoted me...
Anyone else have this problem before? Trying to find out what my rights are..

how did you pay? what state are you in?
you probably need legal advice if you want to push it with them. if you paid cash, you really don't have much to go with. give them a chance to come back to you and see what they say. if they say it passed, have them go with you to the test.

Wtf ? $500 to fix an exhaust leak and change out the egr, that is just wrong. What part of CA are you in? There is always a hook up somewhere, would be cheaper than what you spent,do some searching and find a way to get it done. And I would give bbb and bar a call as well.
