Default Question from a obd1 noob

OK, I know how to jump the two A and B ports to make the SES light flash. My question is how to read the flashes?? I can't seem to get it figured out. my car goes through the DLC process, then flashes six times pretty quickly. I read this as a 6 flash code. Am not waiting long enough for more flashes or what? Please help me out, car is running super rich and hits a wall at 3500rpm like its a rev limiter. On the highway it sometimes cuts out, and if you drop it in 3rd at 65 it completely bogs as though the motor completely dies.. I like my OBD2 so much better!

So you don't know how to read Morse code?

Just sit there for a little bit.

It won't work unless you have a 93 (you mention nothing of the car you're trying to do this on. The paperclip trick does NOT work on 94+ cars.

You can sit there all day and it won't do a damn thing.

What year car does he have?

If its a 94+ you should be able to get a scanner and read it.

Actually, I was just told wayyy wrong. I understand it now. It's giving a code 26. Which is reading out as a Quad Driver Module malfunction... Any thoughts on what that is exactly? I've actually never herd of a QDM malfunction. Thanks for the help.

Since you are reading flashes, we have to assume you are working on a 1993 (don't know why you can't give that info up front).

These are the things that a code 26 can be on a 93:

Quad-Driver Module (QDM) #1 circuit
applies to:
- AIR pump relay circuit
- EGR solenoid
- EVAP solenoid

Actually, I thought I had the car in my sig. But obviously I was wrong, I forgot I erased it back when I traded the car off the first time around. Sorry about that. YES the car is a 93 motor/trans/ecm. 94 body. Anyways. Thanks for the info. I'll start looking into that stuff more.

1993 Quad driver codes often refer to missing relays, like EGR, EVAP, AIR pump relay, etc.
